Thanx for responding. I am totally dejected right now. Does anybody know what a terrible SATII grade can do to the ED app? I got a pathetic 600+ on Writing…I mean…lower end of 600-700…Am I done for? I scored a decent verbal on the SATs with a 4 in AP Eng.

P.S. Came to the States when I was like 10 btw. Does that make a difference? I feel like crying. Should I kiss goodbye to Wharton?

Hmm....it's not good, but at the same time you're applying to Wharton where the Verbal aspects of standardized testing must be less important and you did do well on the verbal SAT and AP english. I think in light of that the admissions people will be left to assume that either you're good at English but a sub-par writer (was this a second try, if not then they might give you the benefit of the doubt and think it was a fluke). In any case, I don't think it drastically hurts your chance of admissions. It won't get you in obviously, but it won't keep you out either.

This was my first Writing II...I was working long hours the three months prior to the test date on a project. So, I did not have time to study. I am really worried though. I am actually a really good writer (the only way i could've gotten a decent score on the AP test was those essays), and my English grades have always been strong. My Verbal score is mid-700+ (surprised myself), and one of my recs is written by my AP Eng. teacher...gosh. All of my other SATII scores (3 others...but I HAVE to use Writing...my 4th and definitely worst grade) are 700+, and I got a 4 in AP Eng, AP Calc, and AP Gov...will those scores help to ease the 600+ writing score? Gosh! I am absolutely terrified.

Does Penn take the other SATII scores into consideration? I know they require the writing (which I bombed), might they take the three nicer scores I have and overlook the writing (or at least take it into consideration), or are they absolutely hell bent on counting the writing and will conclude that I am illiterate?

all SAT IIs are shown, but as chocoman said, one single thing can't keep you out.
As long as you are say...1450+ on the SAT, have a few 5's on APs, top 5-10% (depending on school) then you're in the mix.

Well, I'm Valedictorian of a fairly good school (a little bit less than 500 kids in my class). Around the 1450 mark on SATs, few FOURS on the AP...excellent ECs...does that cover some of the damage?

Sorry if I sound long-winded guys, I am totally depressed right now. :(

I should stop worrying...but, I think I am at the point where when I think about my application, NOTHING seems excellent/steller except the glaringly bad writing score. gosh...where has all of my self-confidence gone?

I actually don't feel that comfortable typing it up on a public forum. But, how about I leave you a private message and you can tell me what you think chocoman.

Or, maybe, I can IM you or something...either way.

I also have 100% asian blood. Don't worry catch there'll take in consideration that you were not borned in the states. I came to the US in 7th grade from china too.
