Help a transfer with Schedule questions

Hi. So I was recently accepted as a transfer and I would like to get into Kelley after my first semester. After reading a few posts on here about how not doing well in unnecessary classes has eliminated any chances for getting into Kelley for a couple of students, I would like to know which classes give me the best chance of getting Kelley. I have heard from a few students(not on cc) that some non-kelley advisors don't really help in terms of which classes are necessary for Kelley. Thanks.

transfer0, the biggest factor in determining what classes you should take is the courses IU has already given you credit for. I would look at taking only twelve credits, as easy as possible, since you, I assume, will have well over the 26 required to apply to Kelley.

^thanks for responding. In the link posted it says that you must have consistent B performance across all courses? Does that include the courses I took at my previous institution? I thought GPA started over and the only thing being carried from the previous school was the credits…

The gpa starts over. I don’t know if they consider your grades from previous school. Have you received credit for finite M118, calculus M119, English composition W131, any accounting classes, X100-- whether you have and which ones will be the biggest factor in making your schedule for the Fall, since you probably want to apply to Kelley during Fall semester but you can only do that if you have completed at least 26 credits and have the minimum courses listed in the link in post #2. Apply in Fall, and if you don’t get accepted, you can probably drop out before Spring semester starts and avoid paying tuition, etc., if you do not want to remain at IU because you have not got into Kelley.

I know you don’t have credit for K201 The Computer in Business, so that and A100 are courses that you should definitely take in Fall.

I havent yet talked with an advisor. I will in August. But according to my Student Center webpage I have received credit for: BUS-A 201, BUS-UN 200, ECON-UN 100, EDUC-U 205, ENG-W 131, ENG-W 231, MATH-M 110, MATH-M 25, and PSY-P 101. I hope to apply to Kelley during the fall semester.

If you wan’t to get in after only one semester, you will probably have to take the following:

BUS X100 Intro to Business (3 cr.)
BUS A100 Basic Accounting (1 cr.)
BUS K201 Computer in Business (3 cr.)
finite or calculus (3 cr.)
a three-credit COAS course (3 cr.)

That, with you other credits, will give you more than the 26 credits need to apply, as well as the business and math courses needed.

Do you think it will be easier to try after two semesters? Also, forgive me if I’m asking a lot of questions it’s just that I am a transfer and I would hate to have to transfer again after coming to IU

You will be able to get your decision after only one semester; maybe this is better (as in half the cost) than paying for two semesters before finding out if you will be accepted.

It would probably be easier to spread those classes out over two semesters instead of one. But you will still like to get the 15 icore prerequistes finished as soon as you can, and the transfer credit you will be bringing with you consists of only two of the 15 icore prerequisites.

Also, if you spread it over two semesters, you will be taking twice as many classes, with twice as many opportunities to get grades less than a solid B.

I would consider just studying like crazy for that one semester the very reasonable course load I mentioned, getting accepted to Kelley, and then working on the rest of the pre icore classes and other Kelley requirements, secure in the knowledge that you were accepted.

You have a lot of credit that, in the past, at least, would be pretty worthless (undistributed credit). But those credits might be more worthwhile now with the revised general education requirements, but who can say exactly what Kelley’s gen ed requirements are for entering freshmen/transfer students, as Kelley has not bothered to update their website for incoming Fall 2011 students. In any case, you would probably like to spend no more than 3 1/2 years at IU/Kelley. I don’t think you could do it in only three since you have only two icore prerequisites. Yes, you have one year of credits coming in, but only two of the 15 pre-icores, so you need to load up on those if you can.

Also, I would take BUS X104 instead of my earlier suggestion of a COAS class, as it will give you another icore prerequisite and it is very, very difficult to get less than a solid B in that class, making you schedule like this:

BUS X100 Intro to Business (3 cr.)
BUS A100 Basic Accounting (1 cr.)
BUS K201 Computer in Business (3 cr.)
finite or calculus (3 cr.)
BUS X104 Business Communications (3 cr.)

Seems like A100 would not give you much trouble if you have already had A201. But be sure to study over and over the practice tests anyway.

Thanks so much!

Does Kelley accepts BUS X100, BUS K201, and MATH 118 Finite as transfer credits from Ivy Tech Community College?

Just an update I would like to know how this schedule looks:
BUS-A 100
BUS-X 100
MATH-M 119
HPER-H 160 (First Aid and Emergency Care) 3 cr. … Helps towards my coaching minor
SWK-S 100 (Understand Diversity in soc) 3cr. Carries IUB GenEd S&H credit

This is a total of 13 credits. Is this too little? (I have 30cr coming in). I am also on the waitlist for beginning piano(2 cr.)
I am going to apply to Kelley after the spring semester.

Also does this schedule seem too difficult? Please, any comments/suggestions will help a ton!

I think it looks fine as it is. The schedule looks doable without too much stress. I’m also taking BUS-A 100, BUS-X 100, and MATH-M 119 the first semester too which are the kelley classes we should be worried about but I do think it’s the easier combination of classes rather than doing K201 and a Math. I’m also taking CSCI A-110 which can be helpful for K201 next semester and it’s also N&M credit.

Also if you’re worried about professors and average gpa’s for a class, I end up using k00fers (the 0’s are o’s) and https://www.courserank.com/iu/search?query=BUS+K201

They’ve been pretty helpful for class difficulties.

Hey thanks for responding. I am also in CSCI A110. After looking over my schedule I decided to take this instead of SWK S100
