Help! ACT writing score report on common app?

I’m trying to report my act scores on common app. I took it with the writing section (essay), so I got the other scores back first. I put those in, and then once I got my writing score I went to put it in, but the scale on common app shows 1-36. The writing test that I took is graded on a 1-12 scale. I don’t know how to correctly report this. Do I put the “composite” ela score that is now fully accurate because my writing score has been factored in? That’s the only thing I can think of, since that seems to be on a 1-36 scale. Also— could I say that I didn’t take it with writing even if I did? Like just not report it? Would colleges see later when I officially scores that I left out an essay score? Thanks for any help!!

Put in the 1-12 score. The 36 is a known glitch.

And no, you cannot say you don’t have a writing score - that’s lying.

Edited.
It sounds like that is a glitch.

The common app is a bit of a misnomer as there are some additional questions or data requested depending on the college.

Maybe there are a few that require the writing score, but most colleges have done away with wanting the ACT and SAT Essay scores. I think both companies are phasing them out at some point.

Lots of helpful intel on scoring from ACT here and what is sent to the colleges. ACT has changed their reporting this year.

Misunderstood the entry issue. Yes, that is on common app to fix the glitch.

Agree, enter the writing score if the college requires it. If they do not require it you do not have to enter it.

Did you not read the original poster’s question, since your response is not addressing it? The Common App allows one to enter an essay score of 36. That’s an error. I stand by my initial response.

Ahhh… sorry, I understand. I read it but thought it was a different issue. Agree, that is a mess. Thanks, will edit my posts.
