College I’ve applied to so far:
University of Alabama (accepted)
University of Tennessee, Knoxville
University of Kentucky
Temple University
West Chester University
Ohio University
Marquette University
I want to apply to about 2 more but I am stick on which two, please recommend some colleges that you think would be a good fit, some things I am looking for: D1 sports (either big on football or basketball), preferably larger than 7,000 students
I’ll definitely look into Iowa state, do you have any other schools in mind? As for financial situation, I come from a single parent and am hoping to receive need-based financial aid.
U of Mississippi would give you about $5000 in scholarship money per year. It has a feeling of being smaller and more compact than places like Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
In Texas, Baylor and TCU are the ones good in both sports and academics yet not too difficult to get in for out of state applicants. Both have good aid and merit scholarships. I think both waive application fee for low income and high stats students. Off campus housing is quite affordable compared to east and west coast. Both meet your criteria of >7,000 students yet not over populated to dilute the campus experience.
Utah State is a good school for football fans, is quite affordable, gives automatic merit awards, and offers a path to qualify for residency after the first year which drops the cost enormously for years 2-4.
What’s your EFC? Has your parent given you a budget as to how much they can contribute from income and saving? Do you have savings/a job?
Since you’re a resident of Pennsylvania, which is a horrible state for university costs and financial aid, even your instate options may not be affordable. Have you run the NPC?
What major?
Creighton may be a good pick if you don’t mind going far away.
ULouisville if the NPC makes it affordable.
Youngstown State would give you decent merit aid for these stats.
Mizzou might be possible, check out their scholarships. After the first year, you can switch to instate costs (you have to stay and work over the summer though, except for 3 weeks “off”).
Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Not only does it have D-1 sports, but it charges only one tuition rate, irrespective whether you are in-state or OOS.
My elder daughter is a senior at Mizzou and - aside from the craziness of protests freshman year - has had an outstanding experience, made great friends, has had fun, and is due to graduate ON TIME. Might be worth a look!
