i just got admitted by ut austin(yay!)
however, when i applied, i chose my major as "undeclared".
do i have a chance to choose my major again? (i was admitted by the college of liberal arts, which includes "undeclared" as one major..)
now i want to choose accounting, but is that possible?
glad if anyone could help! thx and wish u all lots of offers! >.<

you can change it, i'm sure. just call their admissions office and ask them to change your major to whatever you want. i had to do that with two other schools before i heard from them and i did it with UF after i was admitted and they asked no questions and just did it. good luck!

really? but i heard that the business school is very competitive, will they let me to do so??

You definitely can't choose accounting. That's in McCombs which is nigh impossible to get in to.

You can't change your major once you've been admitted usually. You might be able to change to a different liberal arts major (and they may not let you do that).

You're going to be taking the same basics your frosh year anyways, so just wait and then you can do an internal transfer after your first semester or two.

theloneranger is correct. You will need to wait a semester or two and then apply to McCombs as an internal transfer. If you keep a ~4.0 GPA at UT and have good recs, you should be able to work yourself into McCombs easily.

so, someone taking natural sciences and someone taking liberal arts will take the same kind of introductory classes their freshman year?

I was accepted as undeclared liberal arts and wanted to change to natural sciences sometime soon (probably after first semester). I just wanted to make sure they'd be taking similar intro classes so I wouldn't have to stay for 5 years or something..

pretty much everyone takes the same intro courses, if im not mistaken

Yes there is a mandatory 42 hour core which all students must take.

If you are a COLA major or CNS major, you might take different options (for example, different sections of Biology or of English), but there are 6 areas where you have to take a set number of courses.

i would still call the admissions office anyway. it won't hurt to try.

thx for the opinions! anyway,i'd try. but there's slim chance, i think.
so i guess i have to wait for a semester or two before i transfer!

do you guys have any suggestions on who to call?
if im undeclared liberal arts trying to go to natural sciences.. should i call the people at natural sciences? or the people at the office of admissions?

just call the office of admissions. they're the ones who deal with all of that type of stuff, assuming each college/university is the same in that aspect. and even if that's not who you're supposed to call, they can always transfer your call to the correct department. good luck on changing it!

thanks! i hope that i can get in mccombs....

Talk to someone from McCombs to see if they have any advice for what classes you could take freshman year if your goal is to transfer to McCombs for the start of sophomore year. It is probably just the general electives but you want to be sure, to double check. Also, read over the requirements for graduating with an accounting major.

I think you will need to stay in COLA for freshman year but if you do well I think you will be able to transfer to McCombs soon.

oh, i just called and the person who answered had a bad attitude towards me.
i asked if i could transfer now, she replied "no."
i asked could i transfer after the freshman year, she replied "i don't know."
that was really disappointing.......T.T

haha yes you can transfer after freshman year.

and i haven't received my package yet!!! wth...

To internally transfer into McCombs, they first look at GPA, and then ONLY in close cases do they look at essays, resume,..etc. (This is what I was told during a internal transfer session).

Basically, they usually let anyone with a 3.7+ in, and a handful of 3.6s as well.

thx for ur information!!

Also, Mccombs ONLY accepts applications/transfers in the Fall semester. So be careful.
