i am preparing myself to attend HK's University (of course, the top 3). anyone get accepted? what is your guys ressume like(SAt scores, SAT II, GPA, award)? what is your choice?(major)

and i am US born citizen, but i have hk id card... should i consider as a international or HK students?

I’m a student from mainland of China, and I;m going to apply to the Chinese University of Hong Kong. You can submit your SAT scores or ACT or other acceptable exams scores.Anyway, the procedure to apply to universities in HK is the same as that to apply to Amercian colleges.

If you hold a permanent HK ID card i.e. HK citizen, then apply as a local (non-jupas) applicant.
“Local (Non-JUPAS)” applicants and International applicants have the same competitiveness when it comes down to admission consideration.
Also the annual fees for Local (Non-JUPAS) applicants will be cheaper at HKD42000 while the annual fees for international applicants (including mainland Chinese) are HKD100,000.

HKU was my safety until I got in EA to an American school. It’s relatively easy to get into for foreigners. I don’t know about being a local non-jupas as far as standards go. Off the top of my head, I think the basic requirement was either two AP’s with a 3 or better or a 1500 (or 1700) SAT I score (out of 2400).

The thing to keep in mind about HKU is that the foreign population is <10%, so unless you are a gwaylo that speaks cantonese you might want to reconsider. Given that foreign students pay more, the standard for acceptance is much lower as well.

Um from Bangladesh appeared for Edexcel GCE AS level (Grade-11) in may 2009 with 4 subs and achieved around an average of 94% marks and will be sitting for A2 (grade 12) this june. I have some ECA’s too. Applied in HKU during late Jan and send my docs immediately. But still dint receive any confirmation of my documents or any sort of acceptance email. Dont knw wat to do bcoz its getting late and um really very tensed.

Can you pls tell me, wat should i do now? How long do i have to wait? Damn its freaking me out :-(

EVERYONE: We have started a facebook group by the name of “Future HKUST International Students”, for all those who are almost certain they will be joining HKUST this Fall 2010… Please join if you wanna make contacts before actually stepping foot into University! will make your life soo much easier and its good to know people from different programs in the same Uni !
However, if you arn’t certain that you’ll be joining HKUST, please don’t join the group yet…

Well, I know that CUHK requires a GPA of 3.8, and it’s either around the same or higher. Apply for the local non-Jupas route. Not as competitive, since HK doens’t have enough uni’s to go around. If you really want to go for the price, then apply for the local route if you’re sure that you’ll get in. It’ll only be 25% of the tuition (since it’s all subsidized)

nikang: Yeah I’m in “an” international school in Shanghai, not in “the International school of Shanghai” though… what school you in ? You from Mainland right ?

My junior son is thinking about international college…looked at Hong Kong Univ. online. How can an international student apply as a local? Don’t you have to be a resident? I was assuming it was the same as here, in-state vs. out of state costs, and residency requirements of usually 2 years. We appreciate any help!

pandapals, you are dead wrong. HKU is not an easy school to gain admission into. People in my school who go there are usually the Georgetown/CMU/Vandy level candidates.

May anyone who got applied and got accepted into HKU, HKUST, or CUHK tell us their stats (sat, sat ii, gpa, ecs…) so we kind of get an idea the kind of people they accept? Thanks :)

Hi,
Since u hold HK id card, u should be classified as local applicant(HK); however, the test scores you can submit is just limited in Sat, you may be regarded as international applicant. I believe that few people here can provide u with appropriate answers, so you’d better ask AD office of HKU directly. Good luck to ur application!
