Help! AP English Score & Transfer Requirement Not Completed?

Hi,
At my CC, they accepted my AP English score of a 3 as an English class. On my transcript, it shows up as though I took the English class and the grade is a Pass §.

I wanted to apply for TAG, and UCSB wants English 1 and a second English class done. I took the second English class as normal. But the problem is my English 1 . None of my counselors mentioned that using my AP score would be a problem but I should’ve known better to check with the UC.

Am I disqualified from TAG?

Please close this thread! I found an answer (http://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/docs/default-source/pdfs/tag-faq-fall-2020.pdf?sfvrsn=671f2ecc_40) and it looks like they’ll accept AP scores for the requirement!!! Thank you

If you are doing IGETC the AP score of 3 fulfills the first English. Simply check that you have fulfilled IGETC. Also you will be listing your English AP.

If you want you can also mention the AP fulfilling the first English in the additional comments - although in theory, the English can be taken P/NP do I don’t see an issue anywhere.

FYI- If you are not doing IGETC the AP score of 3 may not fulfill first English.

Thank you so much @Ohm888 I appreciate it! I didn’t know if I had to report AP scores if they were applied to my CC transcript. Would I include the English grade as Pass when they ask for coursework too?

https://my.sa.ucsb.edu/catalog/Current/UndergraduateEducation/APCreditandChart.aspx lists what UCSB gives subject credit for each AP score. Looks like you need a AP English score of 4 or 5 to satisfy UCSB’s first English composition requirement (GE A1) or a score of 5 to satisfy both English composition requirements (GE A1 and A2).

However, UCSB also allows IGETC to satisfy GE requirements, so if an AP English score of 3 can help you fulfill IGETC at your community college, then it can be useful. See https://my.sa.ucsb.edu/catalog/Current/UndergraduateEducation/SatisfyingGEs.aspx .

@ucbalumnus IGETC score of 3 overrides any UC 4 requirement. The UCs honor the IGETC. That’s why I said assuming OP was doing IGETC. That’s the key part to it.

@dayshines I’m not sure why it’s saying you have a P in the first English if you never took it. Just note the AP (unless you took the first English course).
