So up until sophomore year, my name under my school system was NOT my legal name. Unfortunately, I took an AP test before I got it changed and was confused on whether to put my legal name or the name I go by (even though it does say legal name on the sheet.. I was a freshman. Go figure). I ended up texting my dad during the pre-AP bubbling session and he said to put my non-legal name. And that is how, for the past three years, my AP scores have accumulated under one name - which is not my legal name.

With the new score system, my AP score will NOT be connected to my current CB account (turns out I have three LOL - one that I use, one that has absolutely nothing in it, and a last one that is under my non legal name).

Do I call customer services to:

A) Merge my active CB account with my non-legal name account (would that work? dif names on each account)

B) Change my name on my AP score (is this even possible??) and ask them to associate it with my active account

C) Don't call customer services yet, just check my scores with my non-legal name account, and hope for the best

And should I call before checking the AP scores (in case that I can change my name on my AP scores and link it to my active CB account) or just check anyways?

Sorry if this is confusing.. Thank you SO much!

I would contact college board ASAP and ask them. There may be procedures for things like that. Best case would be to change the name on the scores AND associate them all to one account

I have the same problem. Up until this year I used my non legal name. At the beginning of the school year I had my school correct it. However, I took my SAT subject tests under my non legal name, and when I tried to get the name on it corrected, they refused, as they didn’t “have proof I was the same person” even though I provided them with passports, ID cards birth certificates, etc. So now I don’t have my SAT score and I am going to take it again in October, despite having just graduated. Collegeboard is really stupid in this matter.
As for AP, this year I entered my legal name on the registration info, and I also made a new collegebord account with my legal name. However, my old CB account still doesn’t have my scores for this year available yet, and the new account I made says that they are still unavailable. I don’t know what to do either. Since the CB customer service reps are nothing more than phone answering machines, as they never have any information on any procedures of any sort, I am hesitant to call them(They stretched out my SAT 2 issue for over a month before I was transferred to a higher employee who denied my request). I am thinking of calling them tomorrow if my score doesn’t magically show up soon.

@kellyrandom12 - I went ahead and emailed them. :/

@sahernaqvi - ughhh!! Does that mean that I basically won’t be able to change my name on my AP scores? How will I to send them to colleges? (isn’t there a “name that you go by” box for common app? Not sure) It sucks that you went through all of that. But how on earth am I going to retake 8 APs next year? What!? There’s just no way. There’s GOT to be a simpler solution for both of us. Did they really say you didn’t have enough information even though you sent them all those forms of identification? I went ahead and sent my email but it looks like it’s going to be useless. Why is collegeboard so frustrating?!

Contact CB. I called and they merge the accounts. It seems like a big mess now but they fix this all the time for various reasons. In 2011 my son had two accounts due to an incorrect spelling of his name generating a second account. I made a single call and two weeks later we had a report with everything on one account. It’s very frustrating, but really not a big deal to correct.

blueiguana - I did contact CB and I am planning to also call tomorrow. I’m glad to hear that it was easily fixable for your son, but my legal name and the name that I go by are not similar at all. I think it might’ve been easier because it was a spelling error, but with two complete different names they might not change it so easily. I’m hoping for the best! Thank you :)
