HELP AP SCORES in admisison (CANT FIND ANSWERS ANYWHERE)

Do AP scores count in your admission to a univeristy or just placement once you are in? Do you have to “send” them to the school like your SAT scores or do you just write them on your application? If you have to send them, how do u do it , i cant find it on collegeboard.com. Either way, do colleges always find out ALL the AP scores you have? How much will a 5 in AP european history help? PLZ HELP i cant find answers anywhere

some schools use them in the admission process, while some only for placement...it depends on their policy. At most schools, you don't have to send official AP scores until you have been admitted. There is a phone number on your official scores that you call to send your scores, and it costs money. If you are taking more tests, you can fill out the college code you want to get your scores before the test. I believe it's free to send scores if you do it on the day of the test.

I wouldn't send them... it's pretty expensive. Most schools don't really care all that much. They probably just reinforce everything else in the app anyway, it's unlikely that they really tell the admissions committee anything new.

Specifically regarding UCs (I know, you might not be applying there), they only need your official AP scores once you decide to attend. On the application, they just ask for the score. (That might indicate that it affects admission to a certain degree.)

If I understand it correctly, scores are cumulative and free if you select the school(s) on test day. So it wouldn't be a bad idea when you take the test this year and have them send it to your school of choice. (Well that is of course the university wants it after you make a deposit.) (FYI: You can't send scores online. I find that weird since they let you do it with SAT scores... so why not AP?)

For UC's and ive leagues, do you have to submit all your AP scores? Can you choose which scores to write on the application and which ones they can see?

extremefob: for UC's, you only have to submit an official AP report when you register at the school you want. you can "withold" or even cancel AP scores for a fee, but that is not recommended. UC's like seeing that you took the AP test, even for a 2, versus not taking the test at all. So that being said, it's better to self-report everything, even if you got a 2.

by the way, you look like you would be fine at UC Irvine! haha j/k

Well, I've also heard that by not taking the AP Exam (or not having a score), the weight for the AP class is nullified. I have no idea if that's true or not. But it's definitely better to have a failing score than none at all.

this only applies to UC's by the way, they'd rather see a fail then you to not take the exam

but for ivies and elite privates, it's better to not send fails, some people even hesitate sending 3's...
