i just found out my college counselor never mailed my mid year report to wesleyan, which was due over a month ago. am i screwed? she faxed it this morning and sent a mailed copy in today's mail. i emailed the dean of admissions and am sending a letter in the mail tomorrow. wesleyan is my first choice. i know i'm not going to get into wesleyan but i want my rejection to be because of my ****ty sat scores, not because my counselor didn't mail the rest of my application. my other counselor is going to call admissions tomorrow and ask them to reconsider my application. since they are mailing out decisions any day now, what's going to happen with my application? are they even going to make a decision without my mid year report? my gpa went from 3.85 to 3.92 and my rank from 34/638 to 28/628 so this is onbviously something i would like admissions to take into account since i'm so borderline, everything matters. what do i ?!

you'll probably be ok if your counselor accepts responsibility over the error.

she didn't; all she did was fax it over. she's incompetent and completely useless. should i ask my regular counselor (she deals with college stuff but our transcripts are done through a separate college counselor) to explain that i really did send it over two months ago and that i hope they will reconsider my application in light of my mid year report?

Hey cool my counselor is just like yours. Bad business, bad business. Guidance counselors need to be held on a tighter leash in my opinion.

i cannot even begin to explain to you how incompetent most of the people working at my high school are and the insane stress it has put on me through the college application process

usc said they'd make a conditional offer based on one i send over myself ( i couriered) and they'd just need confirmation from skl afterwards...and i got in with that so its ok =P

Call Wes and tell them what happened. They can verify this with your GC.

i called this morning and they said it wouldn't hurt me but that decisions have already been made so my higher gpa and rank won't help me. i'm expecting a rejection :(

Your situation sucks......
Good luck!!!!!!

If are going to be denied admission to Wesleyan, it will not be because you had a 3.85 vs. 3.92 or your are now in the top 4% vs the top 5% because this will not be that serious the the admissions committee (now if it were a 3.3 to a 3.92 then that is a different story).

If the admissions committee really needed extra information from your GC in order to make a decision, they would have called and asked for it.

I know that you are on pins and needles and the next 9 days seem hellish, but keep your head up and when this is all over your will end up where you need to be.

good luck.

my guidance counselor called them too but didn't tell me what she told them or what they said. oh well. guess i'll have to wait and see

andafterscience I think that guidance counselors are required to be complete morons!! I know that everytime i go to guidance with any question regarding college she just gives me strange look as if to say " i have no idea why u are asking me this?" And i think i probably look at her and say, " Uh, hello.. This is ur JOB" So find out. I thought i was the only one having problems but apparently not and ur situation is a lot worse than my unanswered questions. Good Luck. We're all rooting for u!!

hey, thank you

My guidance counseler is a BA, i love the guy don't know what i would do without him

i found out that my guidance counselor never mailed a personal evaluation to carnegie mellon. i didn't even notice it said they didn't recieve it on the online app status until this week and they are supposedly sending out decisions in two days! the thing is it was mailed along with the transcript and my school sends return postcards to all the schools and they returned it saying they recieved my stuff...hopefully they just didn't update my status. or maybe they just decided to reject me and didn't ask for it...

These things happen, and usually if you call immediately and explain the situation, things work out the way that they should.

True story: Kid from our high school applies to a handful of colleges. He does everything right -- he has things sent return receipt, sends out the reply postcards, the works. Everything goes smoothly. Every college replies that they have received everything he has sent to them.

April 1 rolls around and he gets some acceptances and some rejections. But one school -- a very, very good school (no names -- don't want to embarass them) sends nothing. The way this kid's list is set up, if this school accepts him, it is his #1 (he got rejected from another reach or two). He waits. And waits. Finally, he calls. They check everything. They see where they logged in that all of his stuff arrived...but now they can't find it! They look everywhere. He has a file folder and a few bits and pieces, but the majority of his app is simply GONE.

The kid freaks and the college doesn't know what to do. It is now almost May 1. He has been neither accepted nor rejected. He keeps pressing and the college tells him to overnight the whole darn app again (luckily, he kept copies of everything). Three days later, they accept him.

Now, was this a "guilt" acceptance? Even the kid in question felt that it was, considering which other schools rejected him. But heck, he wasn't about to complain.

So now he's matriculating there and doing fine. As they say, most all rejected students could do the work anyway, so...

how weird, i hope that doesn't happen to me

I wouldn't wish the stress on anyone, but you can't really complain about the result.

excuse me?

You all have no idea - in MN, the guidance counselor (for help with college) to student ratio is the lowest in the entire country.
