Hi there!

Im a student from Sweden and soon finnished with my bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. I visited a friend in Austin this summer and totally loved the town and the people there.. Now I have a strong will to apply for the Chemical engineering at Masters degree (grad. school) for fall 2011.

As a foregin student I need to take 2 tests before i can apply to the school, the TOEFL and the GRE. Together with the application fee this will cost me around 300-400$ total. I counted my GPA to about 3.02 and I dont have any financial problems with paying the semester fee.

Now to my question.. Is it easy as an international student to get in to Grad. school at UT Austin? Since im paying up to 400$ for only applying I want to know how my chances look like. Its a huge process I need to go through before deadline (which is around december- january!) and I dont wanna get dissapointed by being rejected from the school. What are the statistics?

I really want to get in to this outstanding school and I would very much appreciate every answer from you.

Big hugs from Sweden!

welll I dont know, my friend from vanderbilt with a 3.5 GPA couldn’t get into their grad school but that was probably b/c he needed a lot of aid…if you can pay for it then the admissions might be a hell of a lot lenient(thats definitely true for undergrad, dunno abt grad). my advice would be to apply, it is a chance to study at one of the most awesome schools in the world!!!

onemorechance, what are you talking about? Being admitted or not does not depend on financial aid.

dude it does! especially for state schools…state schools have a lot of in staters that pay lower tuition so they are much much more readily accepting towards OOS students that can pay the full fee…whereelse do you think they get their research dollars?(apart from state funding)…a friend of mines uncle(yeah, long connection I know) was an admission board member UCLA and he told him this…also mr sweden guy still has to take the biggest determinant of his app, the GRE…if he gets good marks and applies without any aid requirement, I guarantee he will get in…its on his shoulders now

Its /she actually ^^

Yea about the GRE… its scaring me! Im going to do it this 23 October, that gives me about 3 months to practice… Do you know what the average GRE for grad. school is? Gosh i really need to nail this thing haha. Thx for answering :)

woohoo, you go girl! here are some stats about people who get into UT austin for grad school

you should know that since you are international your GRE grades are much more important than your GPA. I would say that you have a terrific chance of getting in and you really shouldn’t ask anyone on whether you want to apply or not cuz they are not the ones who might regret it later…good luck miss sweden! =D

Wow thank you for your support!
You made me so much more hopefull now! It means alot to me cus im actually not a smarty pants. Still afraid of the GRE test though… Well I just have to start hammer the dictionary into my brain, since its the vocabulary part that scares me haha.

pls just totally focus on your GRE now, tests like the GRE and SAT go only as well as you prepare for them…trust me, you will be paid a million times over for putting in effort right now…
