help! APUSH really neccesary?

Hi I am going to be a junior in high school next year.
I have only taken one honors class( chem honors) and got a A first semester and A plus second semester. MY school doesnt offer many honors/ap's for sops/freshman.
I have signed up for AP chem, AP CALC, english 11 honors, spanish 3 and AP stats.
Do I have to take AP united states hist or can i just take reg us HISTORY. I really want to go to a good college such as a UC or good private school.( not neccesary ivy league)

You don’t have to take anything you don’t want to. Yes, colleges like to see rigorous coursework but only take things if you feel you can handle them. I took APUSH and got a 3 on the exam(May2013). The class seemed pretty easy considering I love history. I liked it and would suggest it but please take it if you can handle all of that course load. SAT and ACT also takes place junior year so keep all that in perspective

my apush teacher was INSANE!DONT take it unless you have a lot of time on your hands or unless your teacher is easy… from the looks of it, you already have lots of weighted classes and in the end, its about making your gpa a good number. work with what you have, dont try to overload yourself because it just isnt worth it in the end. i got c’s both semesters of apush and i completely regret taking that class even though i take ap euro the previous year, got a’s both semesters and got a 5 on the exam. i ended up with a 4 on the apush exam but my apush class was really hard :(

It is much stronger to have on your program for competitive colleges than regular class. I’d replace the AP stats with this, just for a little stronger program. AP stats is nice, but is an elective, where APUSH is a core class. That’s my 2 cents.

APUSH is an amazing class. I would take APUSH.

I’m not sure about the makeup of your school. But guessing blindly, if your school is very good then both US history courses will teach all the way through the history anyway. If your school isn’t good, then APUSH will be an intellectual/interesting challenge.

I only say this because Honors/reg US history in my school required 6-7 pages of reading/week with time in class to do so |:
