[help] ART or Computer Science Major?

Hello. I am a High School graduate. I am the youngest child in the family whlie being the first to attend college. I have no idea or role model to guide me. I am not sure where I should go. I don't want to BE in a major. I believe to better understand computer or myself, I have to acquire tools. Computer science lets me think in terms of computer. Art lets me explore my own mind?

I am interested in two subject and can't quite decide which to take. I could pursue Illustration (Art) but I love computer programming. Computer programming is great, but my math is below average and is a great obstacle to learning it. I've come across problems that required a decent knowledge of math and without it is like operating a car without knowing the basics of how. I am not sure. I am taking four semester (approximately 2 year) of general education before my majors.

Art has been one of those dire subject in my life, but I find it relaxing and the best indulgent when I am focus on drawing, be it a bad result or a decent outcome, time passes like an instant. I often can't quite get that creative. I'm not sure, but I find myself in circles and it is perhaps my lack of observation?

Now, for Computer Programming, it is similar to art, I make things, but they are still in the first stage and I am still new at it. I have always been curious about computer and how it worked. What drove it and how it processes information. I'm on my way to getting a CompTIA A+ certification through independent study. And before I attend my first year of college as I graduated recently from High School, I want some advice.

I really see Art as a hobby. I see Computer Programming as where I really want to go. Art as a hobby can be studied alone and lots of practice during my spare time. If I am stuck, I can imagine myself seeking face-to-face guidance for a small fee. So can Art really be learned by oneself?

I guess I'm just lost with two path to choose from, or maybe there is two path open for me, one as a hobby and the other as a resourceful pedestal towards ???

Enlighten me please, thank you!

You don't have to know right now. Seriously. Go into college taking general education requirement courses and reach out to the professors you respect and others in campus organizations. And take advantage of your school's career planning/counseling services!

One thing to consider is a CP major and an art minor. But again, you don't have to decide right now.

I'm a simple guy. A few words can help a lot. I appreciate it. :)

Nowadays art is heavily related to computers so learning about both subjects will provide you with many future career options. Honestly, I would choose to major in computer science and perhaps minor in art or graphic design. Or if you're really ambitious, you can double major.. but that might be a bit overwhelming.

The reason why I would choose computer science over art in college is because you can have a stable career and steady paycheck when you get out into the real world where you have to pay bills, rent, etc. Comp sci grads get out with $50,000/year with plenty of job openings.

BUT, if you are extremely talented in art with aspirations of becoming the next Feng Zhu or Craig Mullins - i'd say go art. In the world of illustration, it's all about what you're clients want and they tell you what to draw. You need to mix in good business-savvy to make an acceptable level of income.

Sorry if this is so money-focused rather than passion-focused. just stating my personal opinion....
