Help Assess My Chances! I'll Chance Back!

Hello everyone! I've been stalking this website for a while and finally decided to step up and create an account.

I'm a sophomore (white, middle class male) attending high school in SoCal.
I'd like to get into a UC, particularly Berkeley (in my dreams) or UCSD/LA/Davis.
Here are my stats so far:
Freshmen Year:
Honors English, Geometry Honors, Physical Science Honors, Spanish 1, Health/Geog., Soccer/Volleyball - Straight A's
Sophomore Year: Honors English, Algebra 2 Honors, Spanish 2, AP Biology, AP Euro, Soccer/Volleyball - Straight A's, probably 5's on both exams
Projected Junior Classes: AP English Lang., AP Chem, AP Spanish Lang(Yes, I'm skipping a year of Spanish), APUSH, Pre Calc Honors, Drafting - Hopefully 5's on all
Projected Senior Classes: AP Eng Lit, AP Physics C, AP Calc BC, AP US Gov't/AP Microecon, Architectural Drawing, ROP Computer Software - 5's again?

Now my EC's:
Captain JV Soccer(2 years so far)
JV Volleyball (letter next year)
Success in countywide Geo Bowl competition (as in 3rd place and 2nd, with 1st place to come next year)
VP of Engineering Club - organize trips and activities, etc.
General volunteering (soup kitchens, food banks)
Tutoring? Don't know if it helps, but I do it
Attending Foreign Affairs program at Yale this summer (involves going to UN)
Plus I'm getting an internship at a software company this summer as well

Misc. : Sorry about no SAT/PSAT scores, that'll come next summer. I'm shooting for 2200-2350. I have good writing skills and I've already received excellent recommendations from teachers for summer programs.
I'm tied for first in my class and that hopefully won't change.
I have an older brother who got his phD at Berkeley, will that help in getting me in at all?
I faced extremely difficult conditions as a younger kid, might that affect anything?

Thank you for any input! I'll definitely chance you back if you respond!

If you score well on the SAT, you should be able to get into those cali schools. Applying in state now seems more competitive than out of state because they want more kids to pay out of state tuition (so its less competitive). Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1488738-business-schools.html</a></p>

Thanks man. I’ve heard about that in state trouble too, it’s a little frightening. It’s not too late to move to Oregon, I guess.

It’s a little hard to chance without having SAT scores. If you do score about a 2300, you’ll be fine for most schools, but it is easier said than done.
Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1485632-chance-me-ucla-usc-upenn-duke.html</a></p>

Thanks man, and yeah, those SAT’s are sure coming up fast. Sometimes I just think, “Why bother, I can just go to a CC.”

Hon, I need you to trust me; you don’t want to do that.

Got a GPA to show? Without it, not much can be said about your schedule other than it’s rigorous (though I’m guessing you’re doing pretty well, as you’re tied for first). It’s a good schedule though; skipping Spanish 3 into AP is pretty ambitious and I’m impressed by it, if it means anything.

Good job in regards to your ECs as well; they’re pretty ambitious and they say a lot about you (especially the sports). Don’t know if the Summer Program at Yale will amount to anything other than the fact that you visited the UN. If I were you, I’d try to go to a summer program at the public university you want to go to. State funded universities usually look fondly upon students who attend summer camps. Try to do that next year, if possible. Good job at the software internship!

Try to get those PSAT/SAT scores up as soon as possible. Your guesses (And truly, I mean no offense here) mean zip compared to the real thing, even if they are based off of a diagnostic test. Study hard for them; public universities tend to be very rigid in regards to that, as well as GPA!

Volunteering is good as well, obviously. Leadership with the engineering society as well.

I’d really like to say more about your future as well as actions to take but your lack of GPA really restricts me in that area. If you’ve got UW > 3.85, keep it that way and it’ll be (moderately) smooth sailing, provided you incrementally take MORE AP classes and continue to show your dedication. I might recommend a more full senior schedule, but you’re still only a sophomore, so deciding that far in advanced might be a bit premature.

Keep up the good work, avoid B’s like the plague, and try your best in your ECs - more leadership if you want, but that engineering society is looking pretty nice in that area.

Berkeley: Mid/low Reach
UCSD: Low Reach
UCLA: Mid Match
UC-D: Unsure, High match?

I’ve never been extensively knowledgeable (nor have had much care) in any UC school other than Berkeley, so take the rankings above with as much leeway as you feel free. Additionally, you’re a sophomore (rising junior if you want to get technical), so knowing what’s what at this point is really hard, especially with your lack of provided GPA and standardized test scores - the more you add, the higher chance you have of getting more accurate info.

Hope I helped! Also, mind chancing back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1494053-do-i-have-shot-princeton.html</a></p>

And just like that Brielle insulted tens of millions of students.

Lol @ Palier: I go to a community college. I insulted myself! Community colleges are not always good environments for motivation and learning, though there are some excellent schools out there. Judging my the OPs stats, he/she would be miserable at the average cc. I just found their comment a peculiar thing to say! Few people motivated enough to join this site wants to go to a cc. Financial and prior education experiences kind of makes them.

(Didn’t mean to hijack this thread. Carry on  )

Thank you everyone! For the record, I do have a 4.0 UW, and that’s not looking to change.

@GenApo @Brielle11 this old thread randomly came across my mind today so I’d like to update you guys: I’m officially going to Berkeley next year!

CONGRATS!
