Hi, I am looking for suggestions of colleges with good programs in pre-medicine/biology that are not too expensive. I'd like to not pay more than $25,000 a year with scholarships if possible. I am also not a big fan of in state schools because that is where everyone goes and I was hoping to get away. Here are my stats:

State: Ohio
School: Public, ranked 603 in the nation
Rank: Doesn't, but at least in top 20%
SAT: 1870, will be higher next time I take it
ACT: 30, hopefully higher next time I take it
AP: 5 AP so far, 6 next year. All 3+
GPA: UW 3.8 and W 4.2
Extracurriculars: Speech, NFL, Secretary of Speech, Hospital volunteering, Dance, Dance teacher, Camp Peer and a special needs summer camp for 4 years.

I also really like U of Pitt, but realize it is more expensive than I'd like so similar schools would be great, but any suggestion would be wonderful!

Fellow Ohioan! :)

Check out Earlham, Denison, Oberlin for Biology LAC programs within the Ohio area. All three of them are /excellent/ with regards to med school acceptance rates and program recognition among graduate schools. I recommend visiting all three - each has a very distinctive flavor. The other LACs in the Ohio area (Ohio Wesleyan, Wooster, Kenyon, etc) are also worth checking out, but in my opinion (which is biased), the first three are better for biology and the sciences in general.

Where in Ohio are you from? I’m from Beavercreek, around the Dayton area.

I am from the Canton area

Cool! If you have any questions about Earlham or LACs in general, feel free to ask. I’m not too familiar with larger colleges, to be honest :P

Okay, I will let you know once i have done some research, thank you so much for your suggestions!

No problem! I really recommend visiting any LAC you’re considering - they tend to have very strong cultures, and fit is very important.

OOS schools that will or be close to getting you tuition/fees/room/board at $25,000 or less after merit aid…(this is also our budget so I have done a fair amount of research on this).

U Minnesota…a bit over
Iowa State
Truman State…a real bargain
Nebraska
Kansas
Alabama
Ole miss
LSU
West Virginia
U Wyoming
U Montana
Montana State
New Mexico

Many of these schools have automatic scholarships. Go to each web site and look.

For LACs, look at…Run the Net Price Calc at each…
Centre College
Hendrix College
Rhodes College

Any of these schools will be fine for biology/pre-med.

University of Minnesota - Morris, a public LAC, is also within your budget.

Big automatic merit scholarships may also be available to bring the net cost down to your budget:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1348012-automatic-full-tuition-full-ride-scholarships.html

But don’t automatically write off your in-state public schools.

*ACT: 30, hopefully higher next time I take it
AP: 5 AP so far, 6 next year. All 3+
GPA: UW 3.8 and W 4.2 *

$25K per year.

If you apply before the scholarship deadline, Alabama would give you a 2/3 tuition scholarship for your current stats. If you later get higher scores (ACT 32+), you’d get free tuition.

If you get the 2/3 tuition scholarship, your remaining costs would be well below the $25k budget. :)
