Help! Bandier or Interactive Entertainment?

Hey everyone, before the Ivy decisions even come out tomorrow, I'm already having a bit of a toughie deciding between two of the colleges I got into.

I was accepted into the Bandier Program for the Music and Entertainment Industries at Syracuse University, as well as the Interactive Entertainment program at USC's School of Cinematic Arts. Both highly prestigious (and unusual) programs, as you can probably guess - apparently only 25 get taken into Bandier each year, and SCA, as many of you likely know, is incredibly selective.

I plan to either do the Bandier Program at Syracuse or do Interactive Entertainment (taking more courses in sound design and such) with double minors in Music Industry and Music Recording at USC.

Here's some more information on both:
Bandier Program | Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts
USC Interactive Media Division - Bachelor of Arts

My eventual career aspiration is to become an intellectual property lawyer while doing some film/game composing on the side.

Which of these schools/programs sounds like a better bet?

Please help me decide! Money isn't a factor at this point, so please don't say, "Whichever is cheaper," or such X)

Thanks!

Lencias, congratulations. Remembering some of your questions from the music major forum, which program may allow you more composition focus if that’s what interests you?

Also, you may want to read post 17 in the thread here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/787110-music-industry-program-major-minor-help.html</a>. Might be worth pm’ing the post’s OP and seeing if you can get some more detail on Bandier. You might want to try the USC forum as well.

Added: if you haven’t already, pull up the actual degree requirements for each and compare specific coursework distribution between the two programs. This may reveal deficiencies or highlights between the two programs, contingent on specific areas you may want more focus.

Good luck.

Does anyone know how selective the Bandier Program is? And does anyone have any advice for getting into it… thanks so much

If you open the Bandier link and look deeper,

It is a niche program, and could well draw more than it’s share of qualified applicants. Studying Syracuse’s general admissions guidelines will give you an idea of the stats of the typical applicant. Similar programs in addition to Lencias’s other acceptance might be Oberlin’s TIMARA program, and there may be others depending on where your focus lies.

Whether a program lends itself more to interactive media, composition, business/management, recording arts and technology, or a music centered focus are considerations in looking for programs that might fit your needs.

Hey there Violadad, I’m quite flattered you remember me X)

Either way I’m gonna feel a little bit of guilt no matter which way I go since they’re both highly selective programs XP

At this point I’m thinking of going to USC because they have the option of a Music Industry minor there, while Syracuse doesn’t have the option of an IE minor. Does that logic seem to make sense? At USC I can later apply to the BS Music Industry program as well, even if it takes me 5 years to graduate X)

Neither one is particularly composition oriented - Bandier is highly business oriented (although admittedly more “musical”) while IE@SCA is highly game design oriented (for obvious reasons). Regardless of which route I go, composition will probably just be a “flair” sort of thing, decoration to my major X) (Say, major in Interactive Entertainment with a focus in Sound Design/Game Music).

Still so torn XP

Lencias, you have great options. I wish you the best whichever you choose.
