help because I seriously screwed up on my SAT II's

Alright so let's just say I am going to be depressed for a while. I got my SAT II scores back today and they were NOT what I expected. And don't worry, I'm not one of those people who would freak over a 700+ score. I mean....my scores are really, really bad (all three are in the 600's). I was simply shocked when I got them because I was sure I had at least 700s ... I -know- I can do better, but my question is:

1) Does it look bad if I retake my SAT II's? I mean...will colleges see my bad scores too?
2) Errr...does it help being a hispanic, first generation college, and low-income? haha ughhh...

Please give me some encouragement.... please?? I'm seriously freaking out.. :x

Only here would a person who is a low income, first generation, minority student think that SAT II scores in the 600s are "really, really bad." So first, relax, they aren't bad. Second, you can take them again if you want, and while colleges will see all the scores, they will only care about the highest scores.

hi to put this in perspective, your scores are still A LOT higher than the median so don't be so hard on yourself. The important thing to include here and many forget to do this is everything is relative, what kind of schools are you applying to? Ivies, then yes take them again? Big state schools, you are probably fine. Let us know what kinds of schools you are hoping to attend and apply to, that makes a huge difference!

uhh anewkid she is sort of posting in the yale forum so i am assuming that he/she wants to go to yale...
just study hard and retake them in october

Retake them. It doesn't matter if you do. Study for next time.

Good luck on retaking your SAT IIs!

Hunt: Thanks, I think I'll retake the US History and MAYBE Chem but I definitely want to try Literature because English is my strong point. No idea why I didn't do that in the first place. Oy. :X

anewkid: phurley is right, I'm applying SCEA to Yale (it's my first choice!)

virtuoso: Will do. I'm seriously buckling down and studying hard for these...I really don't want anything on my application to be questionable. :/

champion: Thank you!

You could consider taking the ACT, see how you do and, if you did well enough, not even submit your SAT2s.

if you are applying yale early definitely retake them so good luck with that, and UMDAD, i think yale requires at least 3 SAT iis.

and while we're at it, is 720 bio e worth a retake or not if yale is a top choice (good school grades, SATs should be pretty decent, interesting ec's, etc)

Yale actually changed its SAT II requirement for the 2012 applicants -- you only need to submit SAT I with TWO SAT IIs, or ACT w/ writing.

From the Yale Admissions website -
"For the coming admissions cycle, Yale will require only two SAT II Subject Tests in addition to the SAT I. Please note that this is a change from the previously required three Subject Tests. If you have chosen to take the ACT with the optional writing section, you are not required to submit any SAT scores."

only two SAT IIs! that's makes me really happy

Spiffystars!

i FEEL you.
my June SAT II scores were NOT what i expected AT ALL.
so i guess we'll both be retaking in oct. which ones did u take?
for my math II and us history, i utterly thought i aced them and would easily get above 750 if not 800 on us history. and lit: hahaha i guessed on half the questions and thought i was getting a 500.

when i checked my scores:
math II: 720 (a lot lower than i expected)
us history: 690 (WHAT????? how can that be??)
and lit: 680 (again, shocker...how did my lit onli 10 pts lower than us history, which i thought i totally aced!)
so yah....i realli hope the results from AP testing don't shock me like SAT II did.

i'm also wondering if they'll look bad if i retake SAT II....but i guess the second try won't matter. it's if you took the same tests more than 3 times they'll start to raise an eyebrow.

good luck to you!!!!!!
