I'm currently a freshman at Berkeley and want to transfer to Stanford for the next academic year. Does anyone know what my chances would be?

why would you want to transfer out of berkeley? I'm stressin out just tryin to get in...although, berkeley is not the top school in the nation, but it's the best school for your money...you should know that stanford would cost way more...unless money is not an issue for you...my advice is to stay where you are...but good luck anyway

Fortunately money isn't an issue. And yes, Berkeley is a great school, but I feel that Stanford can offer more resources for the fields I want to study (economics and east asian studies). In addition, I do not feel comfortable in the environment and city life of Berkeley, despite the fact that it is a much more exciting place than Stanford.

your chances are 0 if your personal statement is as void of information as your first post is. How are we supposed to know your odds if all you say is "i go to cal.."?

i'm sorry for being vague.
my expected gpa for this semester at cal is 3.5-4.0
SAT 1430 (730m 700v)
SAT II (Writing 730, Math IIC 670, Korean 790)
High School GPA 4.3; graduating class salutatorian
Tons of EC in high school: 200hr+ of volunteer work, media rep for an asian-american organization, founder and leader of high school fundraising club, and Model United Nations.
In college: Model United Nations, and volunteer work at the korean community center.

Is this enough info?

I think alot of it depends on your involvement and recs from your first semester at UCB.

Sahn,

you have the stats to be admitted, but that's not enough. As I'm sure you know, there will be a lot of kids from across the nation trying to go to stanford. if kids from brown, harvard, yale, etc apply, and they will, their high school extra curriculurs will probably be better than yours. your chances are not looking good. you're qualified to be at stanford, the question is are you more qualified and more worthy of transferring than all the other students from even more prestigious instutions than berkeley. if your personal essay and letters of rec are touching, brilliant, and informative, then you may have a chance. those subjective qualifiers are what will make you or break you. also, you need to communicate that you ve taken advantage of your resources in college. high school is less stressed, given you are only a freshman.
