Help best state accounting school in Texas

Hi All

I would like to know which Accounting school in the Texas public university system is the best to attend, and cost effective

By that I mean

It is AASCB acredited in accounting
Prepares and fulfils CPA Texas educational requirments
Which Masters programs are highly regarded in Accoutning and Taxation
And also which one resonable Housing options on campus

Please also rank the school based on reputation, alumni, job/networking opportunities, Overall ranking, Accoutning firm BIG 4 recruiting.

I am looking for instiution with overall solid well rounded education, reputation in accounting for CPA and business world.

I am planning to relocate to Texas currently in NY.

Any useful advice will be appreciated.

Don’t know much about Texas, but from these other posts that I’ve read, UT Austin seems to be number 1 in the country for accounting, or at least in the top three. Check them out and see what you find.

Baylor has a good accounting program as well (roughly equivalent to or better than UT Austin’s). They’re private, but offer very good merit aid if you have good GPA/test scores.

Tappmann, give me what you are smoking, must be some good sh**.

UT-Austin is far and away the best program in the country. After that, I’ve heard good things about Texas A&M as well.

@Dawgie: see [National Graduate Specialty Program Rankings - BusinessWeek](http://bwnt.businessweek.com/bschools/undergraduate/09rankings/specialty.asp?rankcatid=1)

Those rankings are bonus.

^you mean bogus?

Bogus*, yes.

UT-Austin, regardless of ranking, is far ahead of the rest of the field in almost every aspect. Austin is also a fun city.

A&M is a distant second. U-Houston is another option, they seem to do OK with placement in the Houston area.

If you can get into UT-Austin, GO!

If what you care about is job placement, go to the school’s website and look at their placement stats. Some of the ones I’ve looked at say how many are placed in Big Four, other accounting firms, gov’t, industry, law school, whatever.

I agree with Dawgie and cream, UT Austin is a definite best for number one accounting school in the nation.

The BusinessWeek rankings are laughable! It puts Boston College first and I’ve heard UT students have priority over BC students for big 4 offices in Boston itself! The only other one in their top 10 that should even be in the top 10 is USC and it’s average student in the masters program (for CPA eligibility) averages a .3 point lower GPA and 30 point lower GMAT score.
These are much more reliable rankings of undergrad:
[Undergraduate business specialties: Accounting - Best Colleges - Education - US News and World Report](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/spec-accounting)
and graduate accounting programs:

UT Austin has the highest pass rate on the CPA exam of any university and if you can get into the masters program, you’re nearly guaranteed a big 4 job (86% choose big 4 or mid cap firms and 10% choose investment banking or consulting right out of college).

Yea UT Austin do have priority over BC. BC’s undergrad program is not known for being very strong in Boston at all.

McCombs (UT-Austin) is head and shoulders better than any other accounting and business program in Texas.

In general, McCombs is considered to be THE STRONGEST accounting program in the country (both UG and MPA).

UT-Austin #1

Texas A&M #2 (80% CPA pass rate, nothing to scoff at)
