Hey everyone. I'm a high school senior and have to read some type of self-help book for one of my classes. I know I've seen various titles of books posted here about how to be a successful student, how to make the most out of college, etc., but I can't seem to find the threads these were posted in despite using the search feature. If anybody can recommend some books along these lines, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

"The Naked Roommate: And 107 Other Issues You May Run Into in College"

put a lighthearted spin on real things you may encounter--with stories from real college students, not some author remembering their glory days of college from 30 years ago

thanks! Maybe I'll check that one out. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I know there was a book called something along the lines of "Secrets of the Successful Student" or something, but I'm not positive about the title.

I 2nd "The Naked Roomate:..." great book, and was entertaining. "What Smart Students Know" is also a great one. Its aimed at students in general, not specifically towards college students though.

The College Humor Guide to College. Covers everything from selling your kidneys for beer money to sleeping with your professors.

a book I'd recommend for general college info is "The Everything College Survival Book".

The book you might have been asking about is called "What Smart Students Know" by Adam Robinson, written by one of the founders of the test prep service Princeton Review. I have never seen a better explanation of the steps you need to follow to really learn the material for all types of classes (sciences, liberal arts, etc), and if you've learned it well you will have no trouble with grades.

thanks so much everyone for the help! I really appreciate it.

Maybe you're thinking of "How to Win at College: Surprising Secrets for Success From the Country's Top Students" by Cal Newport?

sodiumfree,
Bought that book for S who was struggling. When it comes to self-help, he's not interested, but this book looked different.

He didn't read it all cover to cover, but DID read much of it and thought it was interesting. Many of them would not have held his interest as they seemed to be to speak in a "parent voice" rather than a student one.
