Help! I applied RD to Bowdoin originally. Bowdoin and Tufts are my top two choices, but after I felt my Tufts application was not as strong as I would have liked because of procrastination, I figured I would like to at least get into one of my top choices and I want to go for Biology and Environmental so Bowdoin ED2 seemed like a good idea. I emailed Admissions and they said I could change my application to ED2 and sent me the contract to sign. I haven’t signed it yet because after a recent trip to Boston, I started thinking about how much I loved Tufts again. I don’t know what to do! Should I email Admissions and convert back to Regular or just go with Bowdoin ED2? I feel like if I do ED2, I will always wonder what if. The worst possibility is I do RD and don’t get into Bowdoin or Tufts. But I still have a lot of other colleges I would like to go to like Colby, Bates, Middlebury, Colgate, Smith, etc. My SAT is a 2140 superscored and I have a 3.77 UW and 4.43 W. I have lots of extracurriculars and an Environmental Internship and all 4s on my AP exams and a rigorous class schedule. Any input would help!
I’m surprised, if your interests are environmentally based, why are you interested in Tufts? Amongst the NESCAC schools Middlebury would be the obvious choice. Bowdoin also does a nice job with all thing environmental, but Tufts? I just don’t get it.
@urbanslaughter I’ve always loved Tufts and I loved my campus tour and they actually have a good Earth and Oceanographic Science program, which is what I originally wanted to do, but Bowdoin has its own Coastal Studies Program and Oceanographic Lab on Orr’s Island as well. Tufts has more name recognition too.
Don’t apply ED to Bowdoin. ED is for kids are are 100% sure that this is the college they want to go to. It’s clear that you are pretty conflicted between two great schools, and that this a pretty good chance that you will regret the ED application. I don’t think the tiny bump (if there really is one for an unhooked applicant) is worth all the “what ifs.”
Hey! If you can imagine a situation where you would prefer to go somewhere other than Bowdoin, you should continue as an RD applicant. You never know what will happen with Tufts, and it seems like you want to keep your options open. You have a great list - I’m sure it will all work out!
