I'm actually a current freshman at Boston College. I chose here on a whim over much more prestigious schools that I was accepted to last year, and I'm thinking about transferring out. Last year I just didn't really know what I wanted in a college, and I still don't have it all figured out, but I know it's not BC.
I'd want a school with more unity and friendliness, a smaller student body, a confined campus (definitely not right in a city), an open or unified social scene, a slightly more intellectual feel (I don't need much, but I haven't had an intellectual discussion outside of class once all year), and a warmer climate isn't necessary but is preferable. The main problem is I just don't feel at home. BC is not a very 'warm and fuzzy', 'lets all be friends' kind of place, and it's just not the environment I want. Any ideas about what schools I should look into?
I have a 3.9 gpa first semester, and I had excellent high school grades, ecs, and sats (2360/2400). I have good ecs and could get very good recommendations. Right now I'm looking to build a list, not necessarily focus on my chances of acceptance yet.
Thanks!

Take a look at the top 20 LACs and pick out those that are suburban or rural (rural generally means based in a small college town). You will find that strong sense of community and intellectual vitality.

Good luck.

Haverford, Trinity, Carlton if you didn’t want warmer.

Pomona seems to be the perfect fit Others that sounds like great fits are Amherst, Dartmouth, Rice, and maybe Brown, Middlebury, or Williams. Warm is probably going to be tough unfortunately (outside of Pomona).

Hey! I’m looking for similar colleges as you. I asked a question on CC and many people gave me helpful responses. The thread is called “Colleges like Pomona, Stanford, and Yale.” Maybe it would give you some ideas. Good luck!

Davidson, Wake Forest, Holy Cross.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I hadn’t thought about Pomona, I’ll look into that, and I’ve been thinking a lot about Davidson and Williams.
VirologyNerd, I hadn’t thought at all about Stanford or Yale - I never really thought of them as “home-y”, “warm and fuzzy” places - I always heard about the intensity and competition. What does anyone think - does anyone else think either of them would be a good fit for me?

No. They only accept 2% of transfers.

bumppppppppppp

William and Mary, Hamilton, Holy Cross, Connecticut College

thanks for all the suggestions, anyone else have ideas?

Wheaton College (Massachusetts), Colgate University (New York) Wesleyan University (Connecticut)

Did anyone mention Wake Forest or Richmond? Best of luck!
