The Weighted GPA entirely depends on the measure to weight classes, which is different for every college and high school. It’s completely meaningless unless you know how your target college weights and have statistics on weighted GPAs and that college.

As an example of a college’s weighting system, Georgia Tech adds 0.5 for college classes, AP, and IB and give no credit for PE, art, and music classes. No additional credit for honors. So, if applying to GT, your WGPA would be 4.07. If you know that the average admitted student has a 3.95 GTWGPA, then you compare favorably in terms of GPA for admission.

Another example of a weighted GPA is that Florida State adds +1 for honors, advanced, and Pre-IB and 2 points for AP, IB, and college classes. So your FSU WGPA is 4.44. with an average GPA of 3.71. So you compare very favorably.

The example shows the problem when comparing WGPA’s. In the above, FSU’s 3.71 looks close to GT’s 3.95, but in reality they are not because FSU weights so much more than GT.
