My D just got her final report card for her HS junior year. Unfortunately it does not include her final GPA, only her GPA for the final marking period. It also provides her final grades for each subject, which includes her midterm and finals. Is there anyway for me to assign a value to each grade to try and calculate our own unweighted GPA? For example an A is worth x a B is worth x, etc? I know schools may be different but I am hoping I can get an estimate since her final GPA is not released for another 6 weeks. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think it varies among high schools, and on top of that, it varies in how different colleges recalculate them.

That said, at my school, these are the values:

1.7 = C-
2.0 = C
2.3 = C+
2.6 = B-
3.0 = B
3.3 = B+
3.6 = A-
4.0 = A
4.3 = A+

Or something like that. In addition, we add. 0.25 for honors classes and 0.5 for AP classes.

^ thank you. I am not sure how I would handle her math course, which was a half year of College Algebra and a half year of Statistics. They both have final grades so how do you handle courses that only run for half the year? This is frustrating.

Here’s another way to calculate your GPA:

A+ (97-100) = 4.0
A (93-96) = 4.0
A- (90-92) = 3.7

B+ (87-89) = 3.3
B (83-86) = 3.0
B- (80-82) = 2.7

C+ (77-79) = 2.3
C (73-76) = 2.0
C- (70-72) = 1.7

D+ (67-69) = 1.3
D (65-66) = 1.0
E/F (below 65) = 0.0
