In the midst of waiting for UCLA and UCB, I got bored and decided to try and calculate my UC GPA just to see.
I am having a little trouble with the calculator and was wondering if any of you could calculate it to confirm.
My grades are the following … (Did not include PE or honors tag in front of most courses due to being OOS)
9th Grade
PLTW Intro engineering S1/S2 = A/A
English 1 S1/S2 = A-/B+

Spanish 2 S1/S2 = A/A

10th Grade

9th grades are not included in the calculation. I like to use the Rogerhub calculator and this is what I get for your UC GPA.
https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
24 A’s with 7 AP classes = 14 honors points so your UW UC GPA is 4.0, Capped weighted UC GPA is 4.33 and Fully weighted UC GPA is 4.58.
Health and Consumer Education are not a-g courses. I do not see a VPA course (Visual/Performing/Art)? You need a year for the UC’s.
@Gumbymom do you reckon that’s competitive for UCLA? Also, does a dual credit (Community college course) not count towards honor pts?
Sorry, yes the dual credit should count for extra honors points so your fully weighted UC GPA is 4.67. Also yes that your UC GPA is competitive for UCLA.
Here is some more information on how UCLA reviews applicants:
- Los Angeles
- Very important: Academic GPA, Application essay, Rigor of secondary school record, Standardized test scores
- Important: Character/personal qualities, Extracurricular activities, Talent/ability, Volunteer work, Work experience
- Considered: First generation college student, Geographical residence
- Note: GPA, test scores, course work, number of and performance in honors and AP courses most important. Essay considered. Strong senior program important. Extracurricular activities, honors and awards also reviewed.

One more thing to consider if you are OOS for UCLA are the costs. UCLA like all the UC’s give little to no financial aid to OOS students. I suggest you run the Net Price Calculator to see your cost estimate. Most OOS students should be expect to pay close to $60,000/year to attend.
