Help calculating UC GPA?

<p>Okay so I’m a bit confused on calculating my UC GPA. I’d really appreciate it if someone helped me figure it out:

<p>My sophomore/junior year I took leadership, and I don’t think that counts it the UC GPA. Also I took more than 8 semesters of honors/AP classes and I don’t know which ones count and which ones don’t</p>

<p>The UC Doorways website can tell you specifically which courses count in your UC GPA, and which ones can count as weighted courses (which is important to note, as you mentioned).</p>

<p>No, I don’t think so. Those classes that you do take can still fulfill the a-g requirements, though.</p>

All campuses use the same method of calculating a preliminary grade point average for purposes of determining an applicant’s UC eligibility. The GPA is calculated based on all “a-g” subjects completed in grades 10 and 11 — including summer sessions — by assigning point values to the grades a student earns, totaling the points, and dividing the total by the number of “a-g” course units. Points are assigned as follows: A=4 points, B=3 points, C=2 points, D=1 point and F=0 points. Courses taken in the ninth grade can be used to meet the Subject Requirement if the student earns a grade of C or better, but they will not be used to calculate the GPA.

All grades for all academic courses completed in grades 9, 10 and 11 must be reported. If a course is repeated, both the initial and repeated course and grades earned for both must be shown. Grades earned in the ninth grade will not be used in the GPA calculation for admission purposes.

<p>You’re going to put all of the classes you’ve ever taken on the UC application, and I think that will be more clear about what it wants from you, in terms of what it wants you to calculate your UC GPA with.</p>

<p>No frosh year, no senior year, no PE. Since you have 8+ honors/AP just add 8 points to your total. Assuming Leadership does not count,</p>

<p>14 A’s times 4= 56
7 B’s times 3 = 21
1 C = 2</p>

<p>Sub-total = 79; plus 8 bonus points = 87. Divide by 22 semesters = 3.95</p>

<p>Does a summer class AFTER your junior year go into your GPA? Or are you classified as a senior?</p>

<p>^^No, summer class after Jr years goes on Jr year list (as does summer class before Jr year).</p>
