My little brother just bought a TI-84 silver for school.
I wonder if it's good enough for the Math 2 or not.
Otherwise I need to buy the Ti-89 at the end of the month.

Please can anyone advise

Sure it is good enough for Math 2, as long as you are familiar with it and know how to use it well. I got 800 with a TI-83+ Silver. The TI-89 will only help if you are comfortable using it, and it does not guarantee a perfect score either.

The outcome depends on your brain.

I use slide rulers and tables, because I'm hardcore.

It does not seem to matter if he/she knows how to handle Mathematics in detail.
It does not really require any type of calculators.
Most of college instructors would not even encourage to use one.
The above state is just my opinion.
So, don't take this badly or in a wrong way.
Thank you.

I got an 800 with a Ti-83 plus. It all depends on how well you know your calculator. I bought mine about a month before the test, but I played with it whenever I could, and figured out all the functions. =)

TI-89 takes a while to get use to, i have a very nice TI89 Titanium myself.
But once u get use to it, it can really help u out.
The 89's algebra system really rocks, all u do plug an equation in, and out comes the answer =D

TI-84 Silver is just the TI-83 silver but sexier ;P, not worth the price increase tho

This thread could help:

TI 89 is less user friendly than TI 84; but it has a very helpful F2(Algebra) Menu that helps you solve all kinds of equations, factor, expand expressions, find real - complex zeros of functions, polynomials, etc. Plus it has everything TI 84 has, except that you will have to learn it well.

TI 89 Titanium Edition however is the best calculator for SAT II Math because it has all of the functions that you will need in its menu's or in its catalogue, such as arcsec(x), etc. Again, you will need some time to learn it.

If you will buy TI 84, I recommend TI 84 Silver Edition as it has many additional applications to make your life easier in SAT II Math.

TI-89 is not worse than TI-84, but rather better.
Again, the main point is to know one's Mathematics than computations.

All TI 89's are indeed better but they are less user friendly; TI 89 Titanium is the best of them all.

the 89 is a waste of money. i did great in first year bc calc and i got an 800 on math iic with the 83.
