Help calm my nerves

Please help calm me down I just got my last report card and it is abysmal. I was out for over 2 weeks in the last two weeks of school for certain reasons and my exam scores weren't all that great. However, two of my classes I had A/B's in just dropped entirely, and one dropped to a D! So now I have two C+s on my report card for bio 2 H and Trig and two B+s for AP eng and US H, everything else is A's, but this affects my GPA. I'm going to dispute the other two classes but still, should I be worried? i've been looking at schools like UMiami/USC, and my GPA is around a 3.9 now, with the changes maybe a 3.95 but this means I'll really have to haul ass senior year right? Please help out.

There's always the new 4-year community colleges there talking about in Florida.

Remember to discuss your situation with your guidance counselor- when their letter is written for your college applications they can do a lot to explain, especially if you have let them know what was going on. And, of course, show the grades were an aberration in your record, not a downward trend, by doing your usual better work next year.

If the next grades come up, I think there is no trouble. You still have a fine gpa, and good grades would inch it up even higher. From memory, I think a final transcript only shows final grades. Thes may not show. If they do, I think you can easily show your previous grades and your subsequent grades are better, indicating the poorer performance was a one-time thing. good luck

how do you have such a high GPA with a D and Cs...those usually drop it down, but we I guess are talking weighted?

and your reasons for being out of school will factor into any decision made to adjust the grades

edit: checked out your other posts, this issue is bigger than it appears and if you are going to disoute the grades, etc, you also need to look at the recommendations from the counselor etc...your mess and it is one, and I am not blaming you, is bigger than a few bad tests, your options for college, with the suspension, etc can be hampered by your schools recommendations and records

though you passed all the drug tests, etc., the school seems very studdorn, and I can bet they won't much care about adjusting grades, so time to bring in the big guns, the lawyer, to deal with the grades, as they are a direct result of the suspension, and the other events in which you say you didn't do anything wrong

all is connected and can't really be dealt with seperately

I checked your other posts, and I agree that your problems are much bigger than you indicate here.

I don't understand why you didn't just take the drug test again. You say that you know that you're not using drugs, so what did you have to lose except a few ounces of....?

As a person who has worked in the substance abuse field, I know that people who are using can get false negatives including by figuring out ways to cheat the test. Considering that a student whom you know and apparently were with almost died of alcohol poisoning, and considering that someone told the school that you were using cocaine (something that you say was a lie), I can understand why the school wanted another drug test. At the very least, it sounds like you were hanging around with someone who was drinking so heavily that they almost died, and that doesn't reflect well on you.

Anyway, with your grade drop (that is serious) and with the current situation, I agree that you have reason to worry. Considering the potential seriousness of your situation, I suggest that you get advice from a lawyer.

No that's all done, which is why alot of the time was out because I was too busy disputing it. I took the test anyway, the results really didn't matter to them anyway, but it cleared me name. Anyway, it's just that was alot of time off, but again I also am wondering if they dropped my grade for attendance or something, I mean my grades for US History H are A+ A A D. I don't understand that. Similarly in english its always been A-/B+ B+ B+ C+. And even on my history final I scored a B+ so it's not like I don't know the material. I'm kind of at a loss, but I don't think it should be that bad seeing as how I only received two very high C+s on two of the classes, and the rest were stll high Bs, maybe I was just bugging out before.

You'll probably need to ask the teachers about the grades after school is back in session.

Did you skip class to dispute the drug test request? If so, that may have caused your drop in grades particularly if attendance or class participation was part of the grade.

At our high school if you have an unexcused absense, the teacher can refuse to let you make up the work. Therefore, if during those two weeks there were quizzes, tests, homework, etc., the student would receive zeros which would positively destroy a grade.

Yea but these were excused AFAIK and I'm not too worried as my vice principle herself will be writing my recs, I'm just worried how this will affect my chances.

I mean will a college look at my GPA (say its a 4.0) and then see the D from the last semester and factor that in? Or will my GPA be enough for them to say, "Ok he messed up here but everything else is fine".

The D will hurt you. The college will also worry that the "D" indicates that you're beginning to slack off, and if one is slacking off while still in high school (a much more structured place than college), that doesn't bode well for how one will do in college.

At my Ds school, if you are suspended, any grades during that suspension are zeros, rough, yeah, not fair, maybe, but could be the case at your school

Well citysgirlmom I'm kind of wondering if they will even see it

My average is stilla veryhigh b+ (88 or 89) for the class and my lowest average was a vry high C+ so I mean they didn't really affect my grades as much as they just don't look so aesthetically pleasing. Do yo really think that the college will totaly disregard my other a's and just see the d? If anything I would expect them to want me to elaborate as it was an anomaly, not because tit dropped my grade.

However in light of this I do plan to retake my sats and get at lwast a 2100+ putting me in a higher "class" for lack of a better word of urm applicants to umiami. If that's not enough and my top 10% tanking to offset a d then this system really works against students.

Edit; in my school the office claims to give you the work over the suspension but due to our absymal administration and lazy teachers, a lot of it doesn't get done. For example in at least two classes my grade could have been better, because apparently the ladyin the main office responsible for getting the stuff together gave me some of it then grew "tired" of doing he job. So I returned to school and discovered that two of my teachers review sheets/work weren't evn given to me. I still did quite well seeing as how my gpa is still a 3.9 but I'd rather it be 4.0+, guess ill just have to bust my as first semester next year

I guess I don't really understand what you are saying here. Your final grade for each course (and probably each semester of each course) will appear on your final transcript.

What I mean is my final grade for the clas with the d is still a b+ so they wil only see that right or will they see all the semesters?

Can you view your transcript online? If not, you'll need to ask your guidance counselor or ask someone in the school office if each semester's grades are on the final transcript or if it's only a final grade for the year. I believe in most cases that both semesters are shown. Every school will be different though, so we can't tell you what your particular school will do. You'll have to check with them.
