[help]Can I apply in this way?

I'm now a senior student in China. And I am abosorbed by universities in the US, so I determind to apply as a freshman.

However, I am now going to take the college entrance exam in china in about a month and may get enrolled in one university in china. But, I really want to go to study in the US. So i will take TOFEL and SAT and apply as a freshman as soon as possible after the college entrance exam.

But, I wonder, at the time I come to the usa in 2011 fall, I may have spend about a year studying in a university in china, will universities in usa admit me as a freshman?(I want to be admitted as a freshman because I may spend part of my time and energy on SAT and TOFEL, which may have negative impact on my other subject. So I want to restructure my math and other subjects to lay a solid foundation for the good of long run.)

some college says transfers should have completed #creidts hours. However, I find out another question: Before 2011 fall, I will not obtain enough creidt hours to become a transfer. And if I apply for freshman I will not obtain any creidt hour though all the process of application and even at the time I get admitted.

I can not find a policy to follow,so here are my questions.
Can I apply in this way? Or should I drop out my future Chinese university after I got admitted as a freshman or should not stay in my future Chinese university for more than a year?Shall I transsport my credit hours to the universities in the US? What should I do in this situation?

thank you!!!!!!!!!!

It will vary from university to university.

 1. Some will allow you to apply as a freshman no matter what
 2. Some will not allow you to apply as a freshman if you’ve studied at all at another university.
 3. Some will not allow you to apply as a freshman once you’ve completed X amount of credits at another university.
 4. Some will not allow you to apply at all (even as a transfer) once you’ve studied at another university. This is very rare, but I know that Princeton (for example) does this.
 5. Some will not care if the other university was not in the US.

You really need to check the individual policies of the schools in which you are interested.

thanks!but…some college says transfers should have completed #creidts hours, what does this mean? I guess this means that when I apply I should already get #creidts hours , not mean when I go to school I get #creidts hours, am i right?about"have completed "~~~~thanks a lot!

At most colleges you will need to apply as a transfer if you start in China. Only some state schools specify that you need a certain numer of credits though.

Whether you start in China should be determined by your circumstances. If you can pay for the schools you are applying to and apply to some you know you can get into, you have more options. If you are hoping for financial aid and are not a very top student, you are risking a lot by not taking you seat at a school in China.

thanks! I’m now asking college one by one~~~
