HELP! Can I get in?!

Okay, I'm completely stressing out here!

GPA: 3.98
LSAT: 153/159 (When I took the ACT my scores went 25,26,28,31)
Ethnicity: Cherokee Indian
Sex: Female
Softs: Intern at US House of Representatves, MO House of Representatives, Student Body President at two undergraduate institutions (I had to transfer my junior year to care for my ill grandfather), student legislative representative concerning state financial aid, also I've been competing as a professional poker player for the past six monts

Can I get into:
Yale?
Georgetown?
George Washington?
UCLA?
Boston College?
Notre Dame?

Annnd does anyone have any recommendations of top schools I would have a higher liklihood of being admitted to?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Peace and love <3

No, no chance.

I don’t know much about how Native American ethnicity plays into things. FH, do you have any data on the subject?

Just intuition. Being Native American plays a huge role, but a 159 is simply far too low for almost all the T14s. I would, however, recommend an application to Boalt.

why on earth wouldn’t she get in?

Are you seriously asking that question?
[LSN :: Yale University - Applicants](<a href=“Recently Updated J.D. Profiles | Law School Numbers”>Recently Updated J.D. Profiles | Law School Numbers)
[LSN :: Georgetown University - Applicants](<a href=“Recently Updated J.D. Profiles | Law School Numbers”>Recently Updated J.D. Profiles | Law School Numbers)

The wisdom floating around LSD back in the day was that being black could be worth as much as 13 LSAT points. A 159 still wouldn’t get into Yale, but it would be a pretty good bet at Georgetown.

If Native American is around there – or even more – then the OP’s not crazy by any means. But that’s a big “if.”

I’ve never heard a precise number, but the charts above, I think, provide an accurate depiction of chances.

I’m going to have to disagree with your reading of the charts, though. At a quick glance, the OP would have higher numbers than anybody on either chart, and they have a few acceptances throughout.

My reading is that an African American student with similar numbers would stand a non-trivial chance at Yale and a pretty solid one at Georgetown.

But, again, I don’t know how Native American status plays into things.

Yeah, but after looking at those profiles, it seems that they have some pretty compelling softs.

There are 1-2 acceptances max in those charts (I think), among a sea of rejections. That spells for pretty poor chances all around.

Of course, the rejections could have been Hispanic rather than African American; I’m unsure. So yeah, that’s a weakness in my argument. I do think, however, that the OP isn’t getting into either.

Yeah, I didn’t click through any of them. Like I said, I don’t know how NA compares to AA. Could be a long-shot.

Thanks for all of your help!

Do you have any suggestions of schools I should concentrate on getting accepted to then?

I saw on your other thread that you mentioned Tulane. I think you would have a pretty good chance there.

I don’t know. I slept on it. I think the T14 are definitely worth applications; 100$ per app is a small price to pay for the small chance of being able to attend a top law school, whose benefits will follow for life.

That said, if you’re going to do the T14, I wouldn’t do something as bipolar as just Georgetown and Yale. Shoot an application to all of them. I think your chances, if any, are highest at Berkeley, but that’s more based on my intuition than any corroboration I can cull.

How much studying did you do for the LSAT? I’m going to assume you’re applying for Fall 2011 as opposed to 2010 (If you are shooting for 2010, you’re going to have to settle for far worse schools this late). Given this assumption, you still have time to do a lot of studying for another LSAT. Even if you hit just 160s you’d considerably help your chances.

Over on TLS there is was a posting from a AI who was admitted to Stanford with a 160 LSAT and about the same gpa, so don’t be to quick to give up. He is also listed on LSN so you can find him there. Best bet is to apply early next year. If you need help finding him let me know.
