Help! Can I get into Harvard?

Hi everyone!

I am a Barnard College/Columbia University sophomore looking to transfer to Harvard College for the fall of 2018. I currently have a 3.9 with graduate courses here and graduated from a top boarding school with a 4.3 high honors diploma in the spring of 2016.

Some background on my 2016 college process: I was deferred and ultimately rejected from Harvard the first time around. This was extremely heartbreaking for me since I graduated with such great grades from high school in addition to being highly active in extracurriculars and having a great ACT score. On top of this all, I am a mega legacy at Harvard with my hopefully potential graduation from Harvard being the 16th degree achieved in my family from the university. My father and grandfather also are retired part-time professors of the college.

Today I am a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and in the past four years I have had internships at the top offices for my art historical field (Christies, MET, etc.).

That said, what do you think are my chances of getting in today? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Chances of transferring are extremely slim for anyone. It sounds like you were unable to accept the decision in 2016.

Barnard (and Columbia) are great schools and for art history, you are in a great city with incredible resources and museums. I would try to be happy where you are.

It would be really hard to argue that you need to transfer for any pressing reason, including academic and extracurricular. What reasons would you give?

Have you considered counseling? I think that might help you not only accept that you did not get into Harvard but thrive where you are.

This demonstrates the dangers of getting fixed on one “dream school.” Also, in the context of what life holds for many, it might help to understand your good fortune in being where you are
