HELP!! can i RESTART?!

I'll be as brief as I can.

So, I was wondering if it was possible to start all over again. My whole freshman year. I just graduated May 2007 with a 3.8 GPA on a distinguished level, top 10 of my class. I did go to college my first year, in fact i'm still finishing my third quarter. I was at one university fall semester, then transferred to another college for this winter and spring quarter. However, these were not my choice colleges. I was forced by my parents to attend. The only reason i switched over to another college being the cheaper tuition.

So, my reason for wanting to restart is because I did terribly. I completely ruined my GPA. I now have below a 2.0. Its not like I didn't do my work. In fact, funny thing is I did my work but never turned it in. All the work is sitting in a folder on my desk. I was trying, this whole year, to figure out what it is that I really want to do with my life, and I was <admittedly> slacking off on purpose. I just didn't see a point since I was forced to be where I didn't want to be. Immature, yes, I realize that now. I am not one to be this childish, but I didn't know how else to make my parents listen. But through the interactions w/ people I've met, the activities I've been involved in, etc. I finally have decided what I really want to do! And I am completely on fire and in love with it. I want to major in International Studies, double Minor in French and Japanese, and maybe even do a second major in Political Science. </admittedly>

Now: since I've done so horribly this first year, is there any way I can just start from scratch? Can I just turn in my high school transcript to the university I do want to attend and redo my freshman year? Is that legally possible? I know I can do great. I just have to set my mind to it and I really would like to go to my choice University w/ a good program in that area. My parents won't help me financially anymore if I leave the college I'm attending now. They want me to stay because of the Christian education and the strict restrictions. But I believe whole heartedly that I can do much more and definately better if I went to my choice school. Is this at all possible?

You can go to your current college and see if you can get academic renewel for one of your quarters. You can also try to retroactively withdraw from the current quarter.

Other than those options, the answer to your question is NO. You can not omit any of the work and just start over.

Academic Renewel within your current college for the first quarter you spend there- and maybe a retro active withdraw for this last quarter, that would leave you with 1 quarter for which the GPA would count.

hmmm. i don't know if we have those options here but i'll try. That's kind of depressing though. my fault though.

meh u made me read all that stuff
y not just summarize and said "i fked up"
simple
actually u kinda can... move to a different state ^ - ^
it IS possible

you can't just erase it but you can possibly retake some of the classes you bombed to raise your gpa... it is not uncommon at all to screw up your first year in college. Seriously tho you sound like an idiot for the whole 'screwing off on purpose' deal to get back at mommy and daddy. Like the poster before me said all YOU did was **** up I highly doubt you just had stacks of work that you refused to turn in...

no. I actually do. I showed it all to my academic dean and he pretty much burst out laughing. stupid ey?

y did u show it to him? >_>

I can't wrap my head around why you would intentionally sabotage yourself, but still do the work. Most people that are trying to fail out of spite don't bother doing the work

Lol, dude, I know how you feel. Doing-great-in-high-school-yet-not-being-able-to-go-to-your-school-of-choice because of parents-forcing-you-to-go-to-a-school-you-don't-want-to-go-to and effing-up-so-badly-and-wishing-you-could-just-start-all-over-again-with-a-clean-slate. Not to mention, your choice of majors and minors is very similar to what I've recently been considering. ^_^

Sorry, I don't know how to help your situation, but I just though I'd drop by and express some sympathy. =D

Im actually on this forum because i had the same (sort-of) question/delema as mrdelos. how would a university know if you had previously enrolled in another college? is there some database for this?

no there is not, it is based on the honor system, BUT if you omit your transcripts and they later find out, even if it is after they have given you your degree they have the right to render your degree useless basically and take it away. Who would want to risk that?

Academic dishonesty is about as lame as it gets

you can always try calling the colleges you are interested in and see if they are willing to accept you as a freshman or if it is even possible. however, if they ask you to explain your situation, i think you need a better reason than because i did not like the university my parents force me to attend.

uhhhhh you guys, there actually is a database (the national clearinghouse) that shows that you enroll in other schools and you have to provide that info because they check it and they'll request your transcripts/grades from those places.

WOW for some reason i thought National Student Clearinghouse only had your info if you got loans, because i know that was used to check if i was enrolled elsewhere by the loan people.

Cool i guess.

^^ yep if you lie they will know. The NSC takes about two seconds to use to plug in a persons name and get every school they attended...

It's actually quite disturbing that people can compile information on you and then sell that file to others. I know that the "others" are supposedly legit entities that have reason to seek your info, but it's still a little weird.

^^^ i agree fox, i've always thought that was a little dicey.

you could restart college in canada without a problem or even europe, stay there for a year and then transfer to the usa. then again, let's face it often at times it is cheaper europe than usa if you have no financial aid. you have ways of working through the system.
