Help cant decide UNC vs. UNCG

Alright I know this might seem like a dumb question to some of yall, but I’m havin a hard time deciding between goin to college at Carolina or UNCG. First of all I wanna eventually go into the medical field and possibly be a dermatologist or go into real estate.

Anyway, I went to visit some kids from my high school that now go to UNC a few weeks ago and they took us to a few parties and at the parties everyone stuck to their little clicks and talked crap about each other. I mean everyone was totally rude. I’m from a small town where everyone knows everyone and tries to at least be nice to strangers; but at UNC I had people talking crap to me and my high school friends as soon as we walked into the party, I mean we didn’t even know these people and they were talking mad crap. Before I went down for that weekend I was dead set on goin to UNC, after that visit I hated the school. (No offense to anyone that goes there and is actually nice) I don’t wanna go to a school where everyone is just going to be a stuck up jerk.

Anyway I was also accepted to UNCG. A lot of people from my town go there so I’ll at least be comfortable and the classes are way smaller. However, I heard that isn’t much to do around UNCG compared to UNC.

Everyone keeps telling me UNC is a better school (because of the name) and I should go there. I wanna have a great time in college but if it’s going to affect my career that much should I go to UNC instead of UNCG?

Go for Happiness or the Fancy name?

please help

id go to UNC...ull find kids you like. its prestige is too good to give up

Yeah that's what everyone keeps tellin me, but im scared I'll hate it and be miserable. Just about every kid from my school that has gone there comes back home or transfers out the 2nd semester.

even if you did decide to transfer, it wouldnt be hard to do from UNC. If you keep a reasonable GPA you can go nearly anywhere. Your education is important and I think UNC is a big enough school where you will find your group.

Just my $1.87 (my thoughts are expensive)

People talked crap to you because you are still in high school and were at a college party - the same would probably happen anywhere (unless you are famous, or a supermodel). UNCG is a suitcase school - I'm in eastern NC, and we never send anybody there, so it's pretty safe to say that UNC will be far more diverse. All the people I know at UNC are happy, but most of them were fairly outgoing to begin with. College is college, you aren't going to find a "small town" setting at any state university, and even at LACs there are still plenty of *******s.

The only person I heard of to transfer out of UNC wasn't exactly a genius, and he couldn't handle/wouldn't do the work.

"People talked crap to you because you are still in high school and were at a college party - the same would probably happen anywhere (unless you are famous, or a supermodel)."
^ Haha I guess so, I mean I do still look like i'm 14 after all!

And now that I think about it, a few of the kids that did come back home from carolina did complain about the work load.

But thanks for the advice yall.

Anyone one else have any great and expensive opinions? I need all I can get

UNC has a basketball team likely headed to the Final Four. Which should affect your decision in no way whatsoever.

Just my $0.01 (less if it was possible)

Haha I'm a huge Duke fan (Watchin the game right now)

I say go to UNCG and free up a spot for a kid who won't be dicouraged by a stupid one-time experience at a party.

That's my 2 rubles

Dude you sound like my parents

hmm maturity...it happens.

haha hopefully I'll get there someday

Oh yes, Duke is a great team, they shouldn't have a problem against lowly Michigan State, right? RIGHT?

Btw, have you considered going to Villanova? They're beating UNC 30-19 right now.

yea yea, i didnt even get to see all the game my local station started showing the state game instead so i went out.....I'll get a bunch of crap about duke losin from everyone on saturday

Oh well, I still love duke!!

Any more opinions on UNCG vs. UNC?

Soccergurl, it should not even be a consideration. Go to UNC-Chapel Hill. You will not be miserable there. I may take you a longer time to make friends, but at the end of the day, a school with 15,000 undergrads is bound to have a niche for you. And if it doesn't, no schools will! hehe

thanks for the advice

anyone else?

If you got into UNC, you should go. I applied out of state, with two generations of alumni, good EC's and meet all requirements. However, they accept I believe 18% out of state- and a lot of that is sports scholoarships. It's a far better school, my uncle went there- and my dad went to NCstate (both from NC) ... it'll be easy to transfer out, harder to transfer in. If you were accepted, you should def. try.

thanks yall

i have another question:
Is it true that most professional schools (like medical schools) dont take a lot of students from their college's undergraduate programs?

Like if i went to UNC i would have to transfer somewhere else to go to medical school?

No, it is actually the opposite. Professional programs actually favor their university's undergrads.
