HELP!! Carnegie Mellon and Cornell vs. UMD

ok so, I'm completely in love with both Carnegie Mellon and Cornell. I want to go into engineering and they have basically everything that I want. Carnegie Mellon is ranked one place above Cornell for engineering and they're awesome schools. University of Maryland also has a great program. I'm into their honors program and inventis, their engineering leadership program. I felt kind of uncomfortable there though, especially having to do with drinking. But I wouldn't be horribly unhappy going there.

My main issue is both CMU and Cornell have given me very little aid. I'm applying for scholarships from outside places but wouldn't find out from them until after May 1. At Maryland I would have to pay 8000 dollars a year. That's it! (Of course there are personal expenses but to the actual school that's it.) Are CMU and Cornell worth incurring debt for when UMD has offered me what is has?

benandjerrys, follow your heart, that's all I can say. It's totally worth it. This isn't about UMD vs. Cornell/CMU, it's about your heart vs. money.

well this goes back to the old debate of choosing between an affordable okay school as opposed to an expensive elite one. i think you should go to either cornall or cmu, since you seem to really like those schools. also, do realize that if you do well your freshman year, you can get grants and scholarships and things that can help you pay, so the current tuition is only temporary. i have a friend who was in the same situation, but decided to go to cornell with no aid, but did well his freshman year and now only has to pay for 1/2 tuition fee. good luck.
