Ok…your ECs are fine, so is your ranking and gpa. Although your test scores are WAY to low for the ivies, I would say that the multicultural aspect of you still gives you a good chance at those schools as well as the less selective schools. I mean, native american, black AND hispanic, that’s a great combination and you will probably get into several of the schools you’re applying to. Good Luck! :)

Yes I know… I tried to raise them, but whenever I tried too hard. I got too nervous during my SAT and entirely messed up.

When I retook the ACT, I didn’t care at all and I actually did OK. I just failed as usual at the English section. If I would have scored decently on that section, I would of had a 30 :(.

Oh well though!! Those are my stats entirely… and I hope somehow I can get into some of the schools I’m applying to!

Bump please :(

Anybody???

If you get your Native American proof, apply to Dartmouth.

[Native American Program at Dartmouth College](Homepage 11/30/2019)

You qualify for all three URM groups? ALL THREE? In everywhere.

You are only a certain race if you are 50%+ that race.

Ergo, max of two URM groups.

^ Says who? I know for a fact that you need less than 1/4 heritage to qualify as a Native American.

Maybe it’s different for Native American, but I thought it was 50% for others.

Pretty sure there are no cut-off points for others, meaning a lot of people can and probably do take advantage of the system (not saying that the OP is).

I am a wide range of backgrounds my dad is cuban jamaican who escaped from cuba. On my moms side my great great grandfather lived on a cherokee reservation but due the fact the only way you can be enrolled is if you are found on the dawes roll well your ancestors n can link it bk to you. Althugh my moms maiden name is on there we r trying to find her ancestors on the rolls. I am putting I am cherokee but not enrolled speaking im joining title 7 native american affiiation. What do you think colleges will do? I also have american revolutionaries on my moms side and ww2 veterans. Do u think this helps my chances? (posting from cellphone)

Get those scores up, I think you’re fine for the other areas.

Definitely pursue this angle to its fullest extent. This is the kind of stuff that I’d think even veteran admissions folk would never have seen. Don’t just go through the motions of checking the boxes. Find some way to express your unique identity in your essays. And definitely pursue the Native American connection. Think about it from the school’s perspective. When it comes to admissions statistics, your matriculation counts for three other, pure-blooded URM’s. Voila! Harvard has three new datapoints to tout. It’s additive, AFAIK.

Great combination. Good ECs.
This is what I think:
UCLA - Reach/ If you are from CA it changes to Match. I know a lot of people who goes there with way horrible grades and scores than yours (you are okay, better than mine) and they got in
BERKLEY - Reach/ this is for everyone.
UCSD - Match/ this one is easy to enter.
HARVARD - High Reach/ for everyone. Maybe because of your minority status and that you are 1st gen to go to college you can have a better chance.
STANFORD - High Reach/ If you write a killer essay you will have a pretty good chance.
NORTHEASTERN - Match/ you are almost in.
CMC - Low Reach/ It is kind of hard to enter this college.
LMU - Match
UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA - High Reach/ for everyone.
BROWN - Reach/for everyone.

Ok so do you think it is fine I put NA down and if asked about it I can explain? Also… do you think it really helps to have my vast heriage. Do you thuink I also should play up my metal love? I wrote about iron maiden n related to my life… But basically i dont know where to incporate heritage in without sounding weird. can i put it in additional info? Sorry for all questions… ina chance thread.

Unlike the ambiguity that surrounds qualification for African American/Latino status, there are clear cut rules for what can qualify you as a Native American for college admissions. I would look them up and follow them. Obviously you can augment your already tremendous diversity advantage by writing a great essay that plays on that theme. If well done, that would really be a sight to behold. You fit all the desired demographic categories (you’re low income and first-gen as well, right?). However, if for some reason you don’t think you can top your application off with a poignant and humble essay on this theme (it sounds tricky, and I can easily imagine this task botched), I would play it safe and just write about something you’re comfortable writing about.

And it’s not something appropriate for the Additional Information section, which is usually reserved for extenuating information relating to poor academics and such.
