hi my stats seem to be very low compared to other cc members; so i just want to know if i have any chance at getting into the colleges that i'm thinking of applying to...

STATS
Cum GPA: 3.65 (honors/ap = +0.5, we have +/-)

SAT I: 1330/2050 (640/690/720) (retaking in the fall. aiming for at least 50pt increase)

SAT II:
Math-730
Chinese-780
(Taking one more SATII in the fall)

By the time i graduate i would've taken these AP/IB courses:

The rest are honors or regular courses.

COLLEGES -- this is a pretty long list becuase i want to know my chances before i split them into reach/target/safety, etc.

Northwestern
Cornell
NYU
WUSTL
USC
BC
U of Wash.
UT-austin
BU
UIUC
U of Wisc - Madison
UF
UMiami
GWU
Pepperdine
Pizer
Syracuse (newhouse)
American
UMD-college park (philip merril)

helppp me please!! common app's already out @@...

if you want more details on ecs and stuff then pm me or something? i don't want to seem to obvious. so many people from my school are on cc. otherwise just base everything on my STATS. because they're probably the most important anyway.

high reaches: syracuse, northwestern (journalism school or not), cornell, wustl
reaches: usc, ut-austin (especially if oos), bc
matches: umd (you might not get into their journalism school), gwu, u wash, wisconsin
safeties: american

that being said, if you have great ecs, a lot of these schools will drop down from high reaches to reaches, and reaches to matches, and so on

I disagree wit scared- Syracuse is definitely not a high reach, more like alow match.

Northwestern, Cornell, Wustl are vey high reaches.
USC, BC, and UT are reaches, but youhave a shot.
Pitzer, GW, Wisconsin, & BU are matches.
Safeties: probably American, and other schools on the list I havent heard of.

Take these chances with a grain of salt; I am certainly not an expert (in fact I have my own chance thread haha). They are based entirely on anecdotal evidence.

Northwestern = HIGH REACH
Cornell = HIGH REACH
NYU = HIGH REACH
WUSTL = HIGH REACH
USC = MATCH
BC = REACH
UT-austin = MATCH
BU = MATCH
UMiami = SAFETY
GWU = MATCH
Pepperdine = SAFETY
American = SAFETY
UMD-college park (philip merril) = SAFETY

I only did the ones I know about/have heard of! :)

Northwestern - reach
Cornell - reach
NYU - reach
WUSTL - reach
USC - slight reach
BC - slight reach
UWash - match
UT Austin - slight match
BU - match
UIUC - match
UWisc - match
UF - match
UMiami - match
GWU - match
Pepperdine - match
Syracuse (newhouse) - slight match
UMCP - match

I suggest you take out some match/reach schools since you are applying to too many universities.

Northwestern- Reach/lower reach
Cornell- Reach
NYU - reach they place too much emphasis on GPA
WUSTL- reach
USC - match/low reach if you're a cali resident
U of Wash. - match
UT-austin - Safety if you're a texas resident- Match if you're not
BU - match
UIUC match
U of Wisc - Madison match
UF match
UMiami match
GWU match
Pepperdine match
Pizer match
Syracuse (newhouse) slight match
American match
UMD-college park (philip merril) match

That seems like a wide variety of many colleges in different places. Are there any particular reasons why you picked those schools, or are you still trying to narrow down the list?

sorry i havnt clarified enough! ...im still trying to narrow down the list based on how difficult/easy it is for me to get into those schools listed above

one thing all schools have in common, though, is that they offer a decent communications/journalism major/program

i don't care too much about location since i'm a us citizen living abroad...i dont have residency status....so i will have to pay OOS tuition

with that said, however, i do care about strength of alumni network and proximity of the school to major media services (ex. newspapers, or large cities such as DC where lots of things happen, etc), as well as the "prestige" of the communications program

now that i've seen jchen09's post, i think i should've clarified all this a little earlier...darn.

please feel free to offer any advice everyone...i've been abroad all my life so i pretty much dont know about how hard it is to get into some schools, etc..

darn i just started a whole new thread with ECs and everythign and a better title and a whole bunch of questions cuz i thought no one was gonna reply me...but thanks jchen09 you're pretty helpful! :) all the ppl on CC are lol.

to answer your q,
im guesssssing its weighted....because ap/honors +0.5

our school just tells us that thats are gpa and its what we use when we apply to colleges....so...i dunno =.= sorry i'll try to find out

i'm sure he's got reasons. my list is like that too, all over the place. i want out of state, which leaves billionsss of possibilities, and there are so many that i like.

i'd say you have a good shot at BU, america, umiami, gw, pepperdine, umd, and many of the others would be reasonable reaches.
what pulls you down a bit is gpa, but that's hard to even make decisions off of since every school is different and it's hard to compare without knowing your exact grades.
