I'm going into my Junior year, and I'm starting to think about colleges. I know it's still probably early, but I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me any advice on being a more attractive candidate for the UCs and Out of States I want to get into, or help chance me, based on what information I have so far.

I was really thinking about applying to UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, and maybe some out of state colleges, but money isn't really an issue either way. My family could comfortably pay the tuition for USC without any sort of financial issue, to give an idea of our situation. If I was going to apply to an out of state, I was thinking about UPenn, NYU, and Columbia, but I'm more focused on the UCs.

I was also thinking of applying to Cal State Long Beach, mostly as a back up however.

For reference, last year, 13 people from my school were accepted at UC Berkeley, which is probably my #1. I'm thinking to either major in Political Science or Journalism, since they are my biggest interests. However, I do plan to attend Law School in the future to follow my dad, who is a mergers and acquisitions lawyer and a graduate of UCLA. However, I could try to move into politics as a staffer or something along those lines, since I have personal connections with several State Assemblymembers and State Senators.

Is there some advice that anyone could give me going into my Junior Year, since I still have some time to try and bolster my application? Or help to chance me? I would really appreciate any help. Thanks!
