<p>as long as its January 2nd somewhere in the world, you can still submit your application. I'm not sure exactly how late that goes in EST</p>
<p>But if you're going to send it in after midnight in your time zone, you have to send the admissions people an email.</p>
<p>Chicago's deadline is midnight on Baker Island (the last place on Earth to change days). That translates to 6 or 7 AM EST. One reason I think they do it is just because it's quirky and kinda funny and makes them look cool, but it also really helps avoid all the sorts of problems everyone had last night. Most people really are going to try to get stuff in by midnight or maybe one at the latest for Chicago, leaving a nice time cushion.</p>
<p>I still got my EA app in about 40 minutes before midnight, though.</p>
