I'm not really sure what I want to do if I decide against going to law school.
Are there (worthy) counselors I can talk to at UCLA about this matter?
I want to act now before it's too late.
Thanks in advance.

I love how everyone is totally freaking out.

You should go to the career center and try to get an internship or two, but not until winter quarter. There's no reason for you to jump into that kind of responsibility your first quarter.

It'll be ok.

Winter quarter?
Isn't that a little late or am I missing something?
BTW, I'm a transferring as a junior.

I know you're a transfer. And dude, no way. I didn't even START thinking about internships until November. You'll want to start applying around December.

A lot of internships are pretty structured and take a while to get set up. Since most companies have their internships on a semester system, a lot of them were listed and filled in August for the Fall semester. It actually took me a long time to land an internship that worked w our schedule bc everyone wanted me to start in may for summer and i was like...guys Im still in school for 5 weeks. This is probably going to be the hardest thing in your internship search- a LOT of people I know have struggled with the weird schedule thing.

You can look for internships that start later for Fall, but most are going to be starting to wrap up by the time you get settled in October. But really, just starting school and figuring out the quarter system and getting acclimated takes a while. I can't imagine doing an internship last fall.

Really you only need about a year's worth of experience, depending of course on the industry you want to get into. As long as you're dedicated and succeed at wherever you wind up, you'll be fine.

Definitely don't stress about finding an internship right away. Focus on your classes, talk to people in the career center, and when you have a better idea about what you want to do, THEN find the internship. It's really pointless to seek out internships if you don't have any idea what you want to do. While they're awesome for narrowing options down and giving you a better idea of what you want to do, you at least need to have an idea as of where to start.

/When you do start looking, I HIGHLY recommend Craigslist, MonsterTrak, and the Career Center Website. These are really the only places I seriously looked. I had several awesome interviews from MonsterTrak and the Career Center (none of them worked out bc of the schedule thing, though) and I found the internship/job I have now as a fluke on Craigslist.

^

Thanks, allie.
I guess I was just getting ahead of myself (like I always do).
I felt like I should have been searching for jobs / internships at this point in my academic career since that's what I've been told.
It still worries be to this day if I've chosen the right major or not.
I've really been thinking about doing the MBA route rather than law school.
allena was the one planning on going to law school, right? Not you?

Yeah, Allena is taking the LSATs next weekend.

I was going to do the MA route and then realized that an MA in something random wouldn't do anything for me in advertising. So I switched to the MBA route and am now waiting til I work for a few years until applying.

You'll figure it out though.
