Help choosing a Florida school

hey! i live in virginia, studying social science/sociology at a community college and am looking for a good and not too pricey college in florida to transfer to next year.
so far, i'm leaning towards USF in tampa; also looking at UNF in jacksonville, university of tampa, FSU (although i'm not sure about living in tallahassee), and UCF in orlando.
i'm looking for a decently fun and safe area to live in which isn't "ghetto," obviously. also, tell me about the housing options please. also, how long does it take to get florida residency so i don't always have to pay out-of-state tuition?
i've already looked at the main web sites of these schools, but please share your opinions about them, and let me know which one you think would suit me. THANK YOU :)

Do not count on getting Florida residency… most public universities make it very, very difficult to establish residency (otherwise, everyone would do it and schools could never charge out-of-state fees). Generally, to prove residency, you have to show that you are 100% financially independent for X number of years, where X is usually at least 4 years… if your parents have claimed you on tax returns recently, they will not consider you independent.

thanks, at least that’s clear now lol

Why not go to one of Virginia’s good public universities at in-state price?

I’m desperate to get out of VA…

Are you on the run or something? Trying to get out of VSP jurisdiction?

I just wanna go to college in Florida. Why won’t anyone just help me answer the questions I asked? hah

I’d consider FSU, UCF, and USF better than UNF or Tampa. That’s just my overall impression, not really based on anything.

If you have specific questions about housing you might want to try the college subforums:

FIU is an ok school not too difficult and it’s by Miami…

If you’re not going to qualify for instate tuition, are you considering any private schools? You can probably look up crime rate maps by searching the city website.

i’m mostly looking at public schools; really considering USF!! FSU also sounds like a good pick, but it’s more expensive.

what about FIU? i haven’t researched it yet. if it’s by Miami, wouldn’t that mean that living close to there would be really pricey?
