which type of summer program is more prestigious to a future engineer major?

a summer research mentorship program or

a summer physics program w/ lab experiments and stuff?

they both cost roughly the same amount so does that mean that they are probably equally selective and thus would be equally beneficial for college? or is research more important? i have no previous research experience
