(help)Class Schedule

Hi!

I'm an 11th grader with a semester schedule problem and I hope you can help,

My first semester looks like this and would changing it, be wise?

AP Chem
REGULAR English 11

TO

AP Physics:C E&M (This is a 1 Semester Course)
Honors English 11

AP Physics at my school is easier and much more manageable than AP Chem.
Currently in AP Chem I have a C and getting in AP Physics will most likely get me an A.
My GPA will be higher possibly if get the A, BUT I fear college may look down on me for dropping AP Chem...

For college (aiming towards top UC's), what would look better, keeping with the first schedule or the 2nd schedule?
My other classes are AP and Honors and extracurricular are solid.

Thanks!

E+M being easy?!?!?!? There is clearly something wrong with your physics class at your school. I’m sure mechanics is simple, but E+M is really difficult.

^I’ll double what he says, except to say Mechanics isn’t easy either. If Physics C: EM is easier at your school than Chem, that just means everyone’s gonna do horrible on the AP test.

Now, that may be how it is, and it may look better to do that switch, but keep in mind that ease of the class isn’t the same as ease of the test.

By the way, if you really think you’re gonna get A in Physics vs a C in Chem, it will definitely look better to do that.

At my school, if you drop a class beyond the 10-day grace period, you’re given an F for that course (0.0). You’ll end up with another grade for the course you take in its place, but that doesn’t erase the F (which, though you could explain to colleges that it was a drop class, still doesn’t look too hot, especially with rank at stake). What’s your school’s policy regarding drops? Are you sure you can do it without jeopardizing your GPA?

Otherwise, it’s really up to you. A drop doesn’t look good, and I imagine they would assume you weren’t doing well in Chem (so in their minds, they already knew you were getting at least a C). And if your Physics AP test score isn’t so hot either (which, at least at my school, happens a lot in “easy” AP classes), it could be more trouble than it’s worth. IMHO, drop class + iffy AP score is worse than C + decent AP score (which often happens after a tough class–IB Chem is the same way at my school). Personally, I’d work to get that C to a B and keep things the way they are.

Thanks for all your reasonings, I think I can make my decision.
