Ok, so here is my dilemma. Next year, I am taking, gulp, four AP classes (Chem, USH, English, AB Calc) and Spanish 4 which is honors. Now, I was originally signed up to take psychology which is a pretty easy elective. However, this college advisor said that I should drop the elective, take a Study Hall, and concentrate on my core subjects. Is the college advisor right? In college, I would like to major in Pharmacy or some biochem type of thing. Do colleges basically disregard electives and look at core subjects?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

well if you are going into pharmacy, take psychology over spanish, because in the pharmacy curriculum you study pharmacology, which is the effect of drugs on the body and psychology talks a lot about that, so having a background in psychology would help you in the pharmacology courses you take in pharmacy.

If you think you can pull off your core classes without the Study Hall, and you claim Psychology is an easy elective, then why bother with the Study Hall?

I think having a study hall would help... the 5 classes I am taking are very difficult, they have a rep for an hour in each class a night. Personally, I think I would do better with a studty hall -- probably like a 95 vs a 92. So my question is what is better, a 92 with Psycology or a 95 without it.

See the college advisors said that colleges recalculate your GPA, throwing out electives. Hence, a 95 in all aps without an elective is better than a 92 with an elective. Any truth to that?

I think the point is being lost because psycology sounds like a "real" course. Is eveyones opinion still that I should take it, and have a lower GPA, if it was say, Chorus.

Psychology, not AP, is a cake class seen similar to a Chrous type class. My question is is it better to ace the APs without an elective or do well in the APs with an elective.

No if it means your grades will be lower in your core classes which are (APs) then don't take electives that will jeopardize your core classes, and lower your GPA!!
