I'm choosing school btw UCB and Colgate.
well, about major, I'm not so sure, but it's certain that I will major in Arts, such as psych, socialogy, philosophy or econ...
it's pretty hard choice for me
I like big class, but in UCB it's so big(since it's public) and I heard many people said UCB is a Science Uni and it somehow ignore Arts... So I intend to UCLA
For Colgate, well, at first I have no idea about it, I just chose it randomly during application process, for I wanna try 2 LACs
It was a surprise to receive this offer. And I began to learn about this college these days and found some facts that I love, such as its strong alumni association and rich research opportunities... something about LAC actually
But I'm kind of worried about Colgate's prestige and academics
and it didn't give me FA( I didnt apply for~~)

Also, I'll go to graduate school and work in USA after graduation.
BTW, I am a Chinese student.

Only you know your personal preference, but keeping it simple, I wouldn’t go near Colgate if my alternative is Berkeley. You’ll spend the rest of your life explaining why Colgate and where Colgate is, etc.

First, UC Berkeley is not just a science university. It has top programs in economics, philosophy, psychology, etc.

Second, there are A LOT of Chinese and Chinese-American students at Berkeley. Colgate won’t have nearly as many Chinese students. So that is something you can consider.

Colgate is prestigious, but not as well known as UC Berkeley in the US and probably not as prestigious.

Thanks for all reply O(∩_∩)O
I still have some questions about Berkeley and hope Berkeley students can answer~
I heard that it’s really hard to have research opportunities in UCB,since it’s so big and research are most for grad students… however in Colgate, undergra can get research 100% and earn money
I have no idea about the facts since I haven’t contact with any Berkeley students.
And I got many information about Colgate, cuz one student called me and we chatted online…
that’s also the question coming out from our conversation cuz he told me it’s hard to have some opportunities(like internship, research etc.) in big public schools

If you’re Chinese, I suggest you keep away from Cal or any UC campus. There are already a lot of Asians at Cal and going there would not really add to diversity on campus anymore. You’d just be another smart Asian at Cal. Just a personal opinion. :)

And, yeah, I agree to all the posters above. Berkeley is better than Colgate. I don’t think it’s even close.

Internships and research opportunities are everywhere, you just need to find them (and that’s true for every college). It might be harder to find internships/research opportunities at Cal because of all the smart kids, but I never had a problem finding these things.

And like what RML said, diversity on campus isn’t that diverse. Almost 50% of the student body are Asians. UCLA has roughly ~40% of Asians. But I don’t know about Colgate.

I know a freshman on my floor who is doing research and is going to be published in the summer in a journal. It is very possible to do research and internship at Cal.

Cal has more top-ranked programs than Harvard so, by definition, that must include humanities and social sciences. Sure, intro classes can be large, but they get small really fast in the last couple of years. And, yes, comparing a large, research-Uni and a LAC is comparing apples and oranges. I’m a big fan of 'Gate, but not sure it’s worth twice the price…

btw: You can wear a Cal cap anywhere in the world and you’ll hear a “Go Bears!” shout-out from somewhere in the crowd. That, my friend, is alumni support and spirit.
