where is the better choice? And why?

With schools at such different ends of the spectrum, choosing the school that better fits your needs/desires as a student should be your number one priority. Consider the obvious differences of city/town, university/LAC, core/open curriculum. Both schools have connections to Wall Street and historically high med school acceptances rates. (Although internships and medical research opportunities will be greater in number at Columbia, for obvious reasons.)

Both schools are well known and incredible, but Columbia might be better because of the better medical research opportunities and internships, something that medical schools do look at when looking through your application.

The competition is probably going to be tougher at Columbia, so if you are pre-med, I suggest Amherst. It might save you some money too.
