Help! Columbia vs Georgetown : Politics & Gov

Hey everyone! So I have gotten into Columbia as a Poly Sci Major and Georgetown SFS for IR. I want to work in international politics eventually; working on the UN would be the dream.

I love NYC better than DC but DC is the perfect location for what I want to go into. I have heard that Columbia is more of an artistic community which I love with my art interests but SFS is more political. I want the school that prepares me for getting into the best law school.

I am a Kluge Scholar at Columbia so I got a generous financial aid package. I got financial aid from Georgetown but not as generous. WHICH ONE SHOULD I CHOOSE? I am so conflicted

Follow the money.

Both schools will prepare you extremely well for law school and your career. Sounds like you prefer Columbia (including the location, overall vibe etc.) and it is cheaper as well so I think you answered your own question.

Your career goals can be achieved from either. Obviously many students go to top law schools from both.

I know a lot of people clamp tightly onto DC as the holy grail of politics, but for real, there is much more to politics than the U.S. capital. NYC is one of the most important cities in the world; there are hundreds of international organizations that are headquartered there. If working for the UN is the dream…the UN is headquartered in New York. There are 117 diplomatic missions in New York. There are tons of other international agencies and nonprofits big and small that are located in New York. It’s an excellent place to do internships for international politics.

So go to Columbia.

You should make your decision on your own terms, because ultimately, you will be the one who will live with your choice. Anyway…Congratulations and great job in getting into top-ranked schools with amazing departments for your field of study! Best of luck!
