The three schools are all in the list of Public Ivies
I wonder whether there are marked difference among the three
Thanks

UMich is bigger and colder.

UNC and UVA...very similar...UNC is a bit more well known for chem/bio/medicine type stuff...I can't remember what UVA is well known for, but UVA does have engineering as does UMich, which UNC does NOT.

UNC and UVA are basically the same school. Size, atmosphere, environment, academics are all very similar--they even have eerily similar campus layouts. They have a few differences in terms of particularly strong departments (Journalism at UNC; Engineering at UVA) and if there is any other difference it may be that UVA is a little more old-southy and greek centered, though it's probably not a huge difference. Basically if you like UNC, you'll like UVA, go to whichever of the two is cheaper.

Michigan is not vastly different from the other two, but obviously is a lot less southern--both in culture and weather. Campus and student body are significantly bigger than UVA and UNC as well.

All three are great schools though. If I were applying to college all over again, those three might be the only three schools I would apply to.

If you go to the top right of this page and click on "Search This Thread" and enter UNC, UVA and Michigan you will find numerous threads and posts in the archives that deal with your question.

As with any blog that is anonymous always take things with a very large grain of salt and remember that there are obvious agendas being set forth in many comments.

Good luck.
