Help concerning Special Invitation Apps 😕

Redsoxnation2009: Wow, congrats to your son! He must be a stellar student. How much is a Dean's scholarship worth at Brandeis?

smoda: We did fill out the CSS before the FA deadline so as to be considered for a scholarship...I don't know...you're right, a response from BrandeisOfficial would be very helpful.

My son just feels a little slighted because he was accepted to the school of his dreams with his grades, his vigorous studies, his strong list of ECs, and ultimately his hard work, and he probably can't go because his parents can't afford to send him there without a scholarship, not because of his own doings; I can't say I blame him for how he feels. "USUALLY," huh? Well, hopefully we're a unique situation, right? :)

Thanx, Collegebound. The Dean's scholarship was for $15,000/yr which is nice because we weren't expecting much in terms of need-based aid. He loves Brandeis, but he's going to have have some tough choices in another 6 weeks if some of his other applications come through. UConn's also given him merit aid and he's got 9 other applications pending. The merit scholarships will be a major factor in his decision.

collegebound - here is a link to the scholarships

<a href="http://www.brandeis.edu/admissions/financial/scholarships.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.brandeis.edu/admissions/financial/scholarships.html</a></p>

Pending finding something in the mail when we get back to Massachusetts on Sunday, we are surprised that D was not offered anything. This is based on niece's profile who received, what was probably then, the Dean's scholarship and that D has received $22,000/year to WPI. I know that a merit scholarship was going to move Brandeis right up the list at her decision time. Without, it will be the same or higher cost than the other schools that she will be considering and these other schools are not making the newspaper every week for financial problems that may ultimately affect my D's education. Whatever it is it is. I'm not going to worry about it too much anymore.

OMT Collegebound - we also submitted the CSS on-time. My only reason for including that comment was because admissions emphasized the point. The was it was stated to me, I am guessing that they get lots on complaints from people who are unaware and do not submit the CSS. It sounded like there first line of defense when answering questions on merit scholarships.

RedSox: Best of luck to your son. If he's getting such accolades and scholarship money from Brandeis, I'm sure he'll receive similarly great offers at his other schools as well!

Smoda: What is WPI and OMT? Sorry, my abbreviation knowledge is so limited!

By the way, I did call the Brandeis admissions staff. If a student receives a merit scholarship, it came in the acceptance envelope. Period. Scholarships are not "rolled over" to another student if students with merit scholarships decide not to attend Brandeis. Therefore, I guess the decision is made. :(

WPI = Worcester Polytechnic Institute

OMT = One more thing

Collegebound - Thanks for making another call. I guess you are better on the phone than I am. Either way, it is good to know what the situation is so that we are all not just sitting around wondering.

Hmm, I applied to Brandeis, visited, etc. and received a high score on the SATs and did not receive a special invitation app, so I'm going to assume it's not because of SATs.
Maybe it is PSATs though, I remember I checked off that colleges could not send me stuff when I took the PSAT... maybe I shouldn't have!
Oh well, I'll have to wait for a Brandeis decision on April 1st, and it's killing me!

^Yeah, I'm pretty sure (but very likely wrong!) that it has to do with that one little box on the PSATs.
