Help, confused.

I was thinking, and it doesn't make sense.
How is the cotangent of theta 0 at 90degrees when you find that out by 1/tangent of theta, which is undefined at 90 degrees.

So would 1/undefined = 0 ?

cot(90) = cos(90)/sin(90)
= 0 / 1
= 0

tan(90) = sin(90)/cos(90)
= 1 / 0
= undefined

If you think about it, the “undefined” value of 1/0 is an extremely large value that approaches infinity. As such, it makes sense that the “1 / undefined” = 0 even though the calculation cannot actually be done.

Ew.

That is all.

^Hahaha. Not a math person, are you?

qed explained this pretty well. 1/0 is undefined because infinite 0s will fit into a 1. Therefore, it makes sense that no fraction, however, small, of infinity will fit into 1 because a fraction of infinity is still infinite.

^^You are correct in that assumption. :)

But what amuses me most is that you peeps would take advantage of an online forum to discuss mathematical concepts.

^^ Ahaha… let’s think about the “peeps” that hang out here… not typical online forum peeps… peeps that think about those things because they’re bored…

=].

^No, I think about them because I need to put off doing my APUSH outlines.
