HELP! Cornell: CALS (AEM) or Hotel Administration for Marketing?

I am stuck between two different departments in Cornell. I really want to major in business marketing and I've looked up marketing majors in Cornell and these two came up. I'm finding more interest in the Hotel Administration department but I'm not sure if it's good to choose a hotel department when there is a separate AEM department.
Another problem is my grades.
I have a weighted average of 89.74 in a specialized high school and SAT super score of 2220: R 630, W 790, and M 800.
And I have SAT2: Math 2c 760, Physics 640, Korean 800, and chem 570
I have two teacher recommendation from a spanish and physics teacher.
I don't have much extracurricular except being a vp of a club, being in the school newspaper and working in few places outside of school. I don't play sports or is active in any school related activities.
With these, will I even be able to get into any of those two?
I want to know which one I should try out for because I feel like I have some chance to get in to hotel but not AEM.
Help PLEASE!

Are you a new york resident and will you require any financial aid?

If you answered yes to either then I think you have a better shot at CALS

It’s yes to both! But will I be able to get in? It seems like I don’t have that much chance…

Hotel is a much harder admit. So unless you only want hotel industry then CALS might work better. (You can always try to transfer to Hotel once you are already there.) There are many successful grads in business from both schools. Good Luck! (For full disclosure, I’m a CALS business and marketing alum.)

The Hotel school requires an interview and I do not know if interviews are still being offered. You will need to contact Admissions when they return in January, but I am guessing that you will be applying before school opens.

Hotel gives great consideration to industry-related work experience. I don’t know that I would agree that Hotel is the harder admit, in terms of selectivity, but fit is more important than at some of the other schools.

You’re better off with AEM considering that Hotel is a very specific type of program that doesn’t really align with your past. AEM is more general and even has a whole specialization for marketing. It is, however, fairly selective with its 10-12% admission rate.

^^^
I don’t think Hotel is harder to get in. AEM is at 10%.

^^ A clarification on Momofbassist’s comment: AEM is definitely harder to get into vs. Hotel; i think he/she might have been talking about CALS in general, but you have to select a major when you apply to CALS and AEM has one of the, if not the, lowest acceptance rates at Cornell.

For the OP, there won’t really be much difference between the two. AEM offers marketing and a few other specialized marketing courses but you might be able to get into them as a Hotelie. If you have a slight interest in hospitality at all, Hotel is probably your best choice. Given that you’re a NY resident though, being in CALS might seem attractive. Grades and stats for AEM doesn’t count as much as people think as fit and leadership potential.

It would be very hard for you to get into hotel without any hospitality work experience.
